I agree, I think you may have to use laser to lighten it before you attempt a cover. Then, of course, a cover up may still not be easy and have to be fairly big. You better hope your brother is a qualified cover artist or you’re in for an even bigger mess.

Yes, flakes coming off during wahsing and moisturizing is normal but be gentle. The flakes should fall off naturally though during that process, just becareful not to accidentally force one off that’s not ready yet.

Yeah, the “ugly phase” of the healing process where it’s looking dull and flaking usually freaks people out after their first tattoo. I know it did for me. It’s like a snake molting with shedding one layer of dead skin and redeveolping a new one where it will look good again.
