Yeah maybe identifying the style (Asian, traditional, realism, bio-mech, etc) you like or want is a good starting point and then start coming up with elementsfrom there. Like it’s been said, keep looking at pictures and portfolios and see what catches your eye.

I think in this most recent one, the linework and shading is a little inconsistent in places and the colors look flat and not blended real well. The layout in general looks a little flat, especially the flower and the tattoo just doesn’t “pop.” It’s not terrible by any means but nothing too exceptional eitherin my opinion.

For me it’s worked both ways. I have tattoos where I knew what I wanted and then considered placement and now I know where I want to get something but am trying to figure out a design that will fit well.

It shouldn’t stick while you’re at work but I wouldn’t be sleeping on my back if I were you.
