It is always best to let the tattoo heal for 5-7 days before you do any strenuous exercise. This stops the wound from getting infected (sweaty clothes rubbing against an open wound is not good) and burning from the salt in your sweat.

My advice is work with what you have. The tattoo is not a bad one and an experienced artist can most definitely expand the features for you.

Sun lotion on a healing tattoo is not a good idea as it can irritate and damage the skin. Clothing does not block UV or UB rays which also damage ink.

Try and keep to the shade and do not leave the tattoo in exposed sunlight ( as you are actually better off avoiding using sun block on the area until it is fully healed).
