I’ve never been to a well-known artist :p I am also lucky that I have some amazing artists locally who are very very good, and even if they’re not world known, they’ve gotten amazing feedback from some of the best, so I figure I’m in safe hands 🙂 I’m so lucky to work with some of them too, artists in all styles, and who are all excellent at what…[Read more]

Good point! 🙂 I’ve done 10 hours myself, so it can def be different! Conventions are a thing of their own too, because often you will want to finish, you can’t as easily just come back later and pussy out.
If it’s a local artist I think it’s easier to just say “Alright, enough. I can walk around with this for a month” -

I agree with Tecratt. If it becomes a real problem, a talk might help.
And it’s your body, you’re a grown woman and it’s your right to do as you wish. My mom still complains about me building up a second sleeve, but as I said; I already have ONE. How people view me, is not gonna be changed by me having another 😛

It’s a lot easier for a mechanic to evaluate the cost of his work.
The reason many think like this, is because they are artists. It’s pretty much impossible to know how long and how complicated a tattoo is gonna be before the stencil is on your skin, and sometimes things change, so you don’t even know the price until it’s done! I once got an…[Read more]

Thanks 🙂
I got a feeling this forum will be spammed down with tattoo nerds getting their dreams fulfilled in September… Been noticing quite a few that have appointments set up around that time! 🙂 Gonna be fun to watch all the pictures 😀

I’m currently looking into New york artists myself, as I’ll be going there for a few days in September. As far as I’ve been able to gather so far, Tattoo Culture, Saved Tattoo, Last Rites, and Tribulation Tattoo are my first choices. Tattoo Culture says 150-200$ an hour. Doesn’t sound overpriced to me at all?
However, I’m coming in from a…[Read more] -

yeah, usually they might sit back with 10-20% of the price after expenses are covered. Not including personal living expenses. High end artists with very high prices will clearly sit back with more 🙂
Just got myself on the “in-case-of-cancellation-list” with three amazing artists in new york (late planning for a trip..), among them, Tim Kern.…[Read more]

Remember that expenses etc take out a lot of that..
It costs a shitload of money to run a tattoo parlor ;p -

I’m thinking that posting a competition where people can win gift-certificates for up to about 500dollars at a tattoo parlor, is blowing up my damn facebook !!

Still here for me too 🙂
And yes, you need to consider how its going to heal. That’s one reason for me not getting hyper realistic tattoos, they don’t always look so good a few years down the road… There is a reason old school tattoos never go out of fashion.
If you’re worried; Don’t do it. Simplicity can very often prove to be the best thing-

My mom has never been very pleased with my body art either. However, I came home with a nose piercing at age 12, and begged for a tattoo (and eventually got one) at age 15. She really should be used to it by now, as I’m 23 soon.
But no. She still every once in a while comments “don’t get anymore now!” or something like that. At one point I just…[Read more] -

Don’t post the drawing. There is a reason most artists won’t even let their scetches etc leave the studio. It’s for your eyes only until the tattoo is done 🙂

Well, you have a few things to consider here. Has the apprentice or mentor ever done anything similar?
A LOT has changed in 40 years. What was impossible to imagine 40 years ago, is common today. The tattoo industry changes, machines have changed, ink has changed, techniques have been improved, hell, needles have changed!

Can’t really tell from the picture how it would be to cover up.. Get a picture that’s not blurry, closer up, of how it looks now. Easier to tell how dark it is 🙂
You might wanna consider some laser anyways though, will make it easier to cover. And quick question; Are you nordic? The wolf is named Fenris, not Fenrir. And the sun he devours, is in…[Read more]

I got my first tattoo at 15, and I still have no respect for the artist that did it. I get the financial part, all business is good business, sort of. But tattooing 16year olds will give you a bad reputation. I went to the most shady shop in town when I was that young, everyone knew which shop didn’t care about anything other than money. Where I…[Read more]

If you color it in, then sure ;D
I remember when I did my elbow. I was a pussy and scared of the pain, and I suggested doing just an open star or something. My artist, knowing me too damn well, just said “you’re gonna love showing it off to people with a hole in their sleeve and calling them pussies”. Aaand he was completely right, of…[Read more]

You did that big of a piece, on a 16 YEAR OLD???? Wow.
And yeah – are you a professional artist, and how long have you been working? I thought it was illegal to tattoo children in most us states…
