I assume that these “specks” you’re talking about are as minimal as they should be.
So yes, specks of ink do come off with washing/lotioning a healing tattoo. Just be sure you aren’t scrubbing the area…gentle touches.

I’m pretty impressed with what your artist did with the original.
I lol’d at the idea of a “cover-up” for the original…but this looks really nice.

But he definitely looks like a good artist. I wouldn’t be ashamed to get inked there.

He also looks well versed in the Japanese style that you want.

The pain won’t be what will stop you…but it is bad on your ink if you are sweating a profuse amount.

Carry some water with you and spray your tattoo down fairly often to remove the salty sweat.

Black and gray would look better on a dark complexion.
Especially if you wanted your colors to be really bright.

And if all it is is an outline…I would see no problem in going for shaded instead.
