That’s a superb tattoo in my opinion, and I think you were quite right to leave it exactly as it was.
It’s not my thing, but it’s extremely well done, really looks as if it is permanent marker!

I’m saying it looks symmetrical to me! i.e not asymmetric
OK there are small differences in the feathers etc, but in my opinion that’s better than a mirror image copy, the “weighting” of it looks fine in your photo.

Sounds perfectly normal to me.
When the tattoo is fresh, some of the ink is sitting on the surface of your skin, trapped in that dry plasma layer (or whatever it is) so that when it peels, that surface layer of ink comes away and leaves the “real tattoo” underneath which looks faded and pale to start with in comparison.
