a decent shop will not hire anyone without art skills, they require a portfolio, they need artists who caan produce custom work

but some street hack shop might hire someone with a tattoo portfolio and little ability to draw, this person wouldnt make much money, no benefits, no vacation, no nothing, it is a pretty shitty living

if miami, la or ny ink is what you are refering too, the ink is the only thing that is real

you do need a good artists, text is easily fucked up as anyone can tellyou who visits bad tattoo threads,

NY isnt cheap either, $200 a hour is a good price in NY………but you could get the same wwork done in atlanta for 100-150 a hour…….many artists will budget this out for you, set a price, but not in NY

I choose great artists, not shops, however it seems great artists usually work in shops, brandon bonds all or nothing, vince villalvazos mystic owl tattoo, russ abbotts ink and dagger all really nice looking clean shops,
