Don’t worry, your artist will do that.
He/she will come up with a sketch based on your reference material which you’ll approve before going ahead.
Saying that, I know of one leading artist who doesn’t pre-draw sketches, but to go with an artist like that you’d be confident they’ll do something you’ll love anyway.

To be honest, £360.00 is a small price to pay compared to the misery you’re obviously going through. A decent tattoo from a good artist would likely cost a lot more than that anyway (at least around here)

It’s a fairly impossible thing to answer to be honest, only you know what you like.
Your best bet is to spend as long as it takes googling abstract images until you have an idea of what you want. Then, take your reference material to a GOOD cover-up artist and ask what can be done.
