My apprenticeship cost me nothing but time and hard work. Quality free apprenticeships are out there. You just have to do the work to find one. If you ever do get an apprenticeship, don’t tell anyone you’ve ever even picked up a tattoo machine. That’ll make it even harder for you to get an apprenticeship.
I’m not ragging on you. I’m just saying…[Read more]

I’ve drawn up a few things for people on this forum in the past. Mostly, I just don’t have the time to do it now. I have tattoos of my own to draw up. I hardly have the time for that. I’ll make a deal with anyone looking for another drawing from me. Book an appointment with me and leave a $50 deposit and I’ll draw up anything you want me to. I pay…[Read more]

We get tested and re-certified every year.

In my area you can’t get a tattooing license if you have a blood borne communicable disease. This includes HIV and Hep C.

Here’s the second sitting of that Japanese-ish lion tattoo. I’ll be doing another sitting on it and adding more texture and finishing off the mane. I am having so much fun on this thing.

When I tattoo people I don’t mind a bit of chatting, but if the client doesn’t feel like talking I just tattoo. I’m pretty darn charming and really good at conversation but that’s not what they pay me for. I get paid to tattoo. If you start out chatty and suddenly get quiet I might stop and make sure you’re ok and see if you need a break. I don’t…[Read more]

I haven’t quite gotten to that level yet. I’m still learning the rudiments of tattooing. I’ve got a long way to go. If I tried it now it would end up in the WTF thread.

I try to not do any script in a true straight line. It moves with the body better with a bit of a curve and looks less static. I was turning it down because I didn’t have the confidence to do it. With a picture you have a little bit of wiggle room with lines and can fix things with second passes and color/shading. With script it has to be perfect…[Read more]

Oh man! I’d love a human skull! That would be better than any tip ever. I’ve been looking for one at a reasonable price, but I just can’t afford $600 or more for a drawing reference.
I always tip excessively. I like to bring food goodies as well. It’s hard to get any time to go out and get a bite to eat working in a tattoo shop. Most days we…[Read more]

Looks pretty decent. How long have you been at it? And did you freak when you saw how much bigger that feather on the ribs gets when you stretch them out?

That would be $75 to $100 at the shop where I work.

Here are a couple more.

I’m trying to do more script. So many people want it and I’m missing out on appointments if I don”t do it.

This one is fun. I’ll be adding ram horns and tentacles to it in the near future.

You’re going to have to go bigger than 5×7 dude. All that crammed into such a small area is going to be illegible and look like a blurry mess in a year. And I think the stitching look unless done perfect is going to look like a plain dotted line. It’s a cool idea, but I think you have to be open to a larger piece.

The actual drawing could have been better. The roses lack consistency as far as shape. I would like to see more variance in line weight to emphasize the areas that need it. Plus with all this color the artist could have really saturated the image and packed tons on color in it to make it really pop. Alot of this stuff can still be done. I wouldn’t…[Read more]
