It sounds to me like you’ll have a lot of negative space that’s mostly consist of filler / background as clouds / water or something.
I would make a drawing of the outer lines of my arm, and add the image you have in your head of the tattoo on that.

I dont like any of Colin Jones traditional work really. He have been doing this for a while, that I can see, but it doesn’t have that POW that you get from great traditional JP ink.
