There is no reason why you cannot tweak it so it is unique to you. You could have your own style of boat racing the crest of the wave or have a serpent rising up from the depths etc.

It is a great design and no reason why you cannot work it so you put a fresh perspective on it.

One of the artists at the studio im having my back done has been to Japan 3 times for a full front dragon which he is having done via stick method.

He says it hurts a bit more than normal but generally it takes a bit longer.

The outline and shading is very different to that of a machine as well close up – nice but more layered.

Have you considered taking separate parts of the dragons you like to your tattoo artist to draw up the complete style that you like?

I did a similar thing with my backpiece I passed him the main dragon but also gave him several others and pointed out the bits I liked and he put it together for for me.

If you are going for bold or darkish colours over the outline that would cover up nicely.#
What are you having it covered with?

If you are going for more tribal i would suggest reworking the outline professionally alternatively a dragon or other large piece will cover that nicely.
