that is quite a fair size piece for your first tattoo, the lettering needs to be a fair size as tattoos do mingle and distort with time, after a few yers the writing will just be a mess if its too small or too close together…
i would recommend on your chest for the piece although it is a nippy area for most people.

As a coverup it looks fine, its near on impossible to tell immediately that it is a cover, give it a few more weeks and let it heal before making any rash desissions.

what you are wanting is not a problem, the piece you have is very faded and a cover over with the right design would be fine, as for the leaf, i would just get it redone and it would be fine

you need to find a good artist, dont attempt going to a friend of a friend who has a kit from ebay 😉
