I am an example of an apprentice that’s never tattooed before my apprenticeship. I’ve been tattooing people for about 5 months now. Take a look at my progression under a quality mentor and I’ve got tons to work on still. I don’t have anything uploaded in my albums but I do have a thread titled Apprenticeship Tattoos, check it out. I’m not saying…[Read more]

Congratulations then! All I have to say then is take it seriously. Put learning to tattoo before everything else. Be at the shop as much as you possibly can. It’s an opportunity that few people ever get. Take it and run with it. Good luck.

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that you wanted to gain a tattoo apprenticeship. You should try working outside of your comfort zone. Draw some birds, hearts, horseshoes, script, etc… Most prospective mentors are looking for a well rounded artist. I’ve been tattooing for a couple months so far and I’ve only tattooed a handful of things that…[Read more]

That first tattoo ( the one that looks woven ) is crazy good. The degree of difficulty on that one is off the charts. Great work.

There are ways to make natural skin appear to look white using cool colors and warm colors in strategic places in your tattoo. A good artist can make it happen.

Wow, thank you for the high praise. I’m trying to push myself harder every day. I’ve got some pretty lofty goals for myself. I hope I can achieve them.

Thanks everyone. One cool note, my mentor also helped teach Josh Woods who got some notoriety working at All Or Nothing in Atlanta. He now owns a shop in Nashville called Black 13. I hope I can become even a fraction of the tattoo artist he has become. I’ve obviously got the right teachers though. Here’s to lots of hard work to come!

I don’t know if you read my post but I wasn’t trashing you in the least. You had an apprenticeship. You did the work. Your mentor flaked on you. I get it. It sucks. It should be that much easier for you to get another apprenticeship. My main point is that you cannot get reliable information on the internet. There is no correspondence course for…[Read more]

I think that because of the dangers that are out there now such as AIDS, Hep A, B, and C, MRSA, etc.. an apprenticeship is important. It’s also way easier to have someone teach you what you need to know than hope that you found reliable information from anonymous people on the internet. A house is no place for a tattoo studio. You cannot guarantee…[Read more]

Did these jammers today.
Heart locket

A girl came in and asked me for a Polish heritage themed tattoo. Instead of the usual Polish Falcon I did some research. Pussy willows are a symbol of Dyngus Day, a holiday celebrated the day after Easter. Buffalo New York is the Dyngus Day Capitol of the world. Tons of fun. The bird is a Blue Tit. A native…[Read more]

To be honest I was really just shooting from the hip on that one. That was one of my first watercolors. I usually don’t really have a definite plan when laying out color. I used to make duplicate line drawings so I could have a chance to re-do them if I hated the coloring. I have stopped all that since starting my apprenticeship. It’s a lot harder…[Read more]

Yeah, I’ve been working about 80 hours a week between my job and my apprenticeship since October of last year. I’m pretty tired most of the time and I’m never home but it will all pay off soon enough.
