In exactly 18 days from tomorrow it’ll finally be ink time again 🙂

Are you still going to try an upper back piece? I like the idea of the owl, I think it will work well with the pocket watch, too. You had mentioned train tracks and fall leaves as well earlier. Could you do something where maybe a scene starts on one shoulder and wraps across the upper back to the other shoulder? You could use train tracks, leaves or just trees in the fall with the tracks going though them, maybe have the owl holding the watch as he flies through the scene with the trees and the tracks? Or have the owl on one end and a hand holding the watch in another?

Just throwing some rough ideas out there. Post pics when you get it done. Good luck!

Agreed. One of the great aspects of nebulae is the conrast between dark and light, the thin wisps and tiny details. All of that will be hard to translate to skin and keep “fresh”. In addition, space scenes require a LOT of dark colors and black, so keep that in mind when thinking about how much time (and money) you want to spend in the chair.

I would research space tattoos, not space photos. You’ll get a much better idea of what they will look like on skin and might give you more ideas of what to go for. Email some to your artist and have them give you some thoughts and ideas now. Get the ball rolling.

Let us know what you decide. Good luck!

I agree. I think we’re going to need multiple pics from all possible angles in order to really determine whats best here… 😉

Seriously, I’d find a good cover up artist in your area and discuss it with them. Remember, the usual way to cover up one small black piece of art is with a bigger black piece. So for example, take a picture of a seahorse and then use a black marker to cover it up. You’ll see what I mean. But, that being said, there are some really good artists that specialize in doing just that. You could do a combination of some lasering to lighten it up and then do a cover up, too.

Have you talked to an artist yet about your options?

What they said, but…

Be prepared to pay for the work you are requesting. You will have to put down a deposit in order to secure an artist and have them develop your idea into something tangible (maybe $60-$100?), but the deposit will go towards the cost of your tattoo. Most reputable tattoo artists will not let you leave with their artwork in hand, since there is nothing stopping you from taking it to another competitor to be applied.

If they do a good job of capturing your thoughts into art, you’ll be so stoked at the idea that you won’t be able to wait until they can fit you in for a session. Be prepared to be blown away!

Good luck with your search. FInd the best artist that does a style you like, and do NOT go for the cheapest option! This will be on you forever, now is not the time to shop in the discount aisle! You get wht you pay for!

Let us know what you decide, and remember to post pics when you’re done!

Dude look.

I understand this. But I currently dont have the money to invest into removing it, so my only real options are as follows.

– Leave it alone looking unfinished and like shit.

– Try and add more to at least improve it, I know I wont be able to cover it, but I just want it to LOOK better, that’s simply all im trying to do.

Thank you for your replies.

I was told the following in order to remove.

– $150 per session
-Once a month
-Typically takes about 5 sessions at least
-Not guarenteed to be fully removed.

So thats almost $1,000 just to remove that small area, you know how much ink I can get for $1,000?

I want you to try an exercise. Take a picture of yourself with that tattoo you want fixed. Now, take a black marker, draw on the picture and try to show someone how you want it fixed. That’s what you are saying you want done. Take a big black chunk and fix it with more black. This is the deal with tattoos, they are kind of permanent and not really fixable.

If you want it done right, you need to lighten it as much as possible. Its not cheap. You’re already wearing the results of a bad fix-it job, and now you want to do another one? There are smart people here. Listen to them, don’t listen to them. Its your body, do what you want.

Best advise is to get it lightened and then find a GOOD cover-up artist (drive if you have to!) and get a consult FIRST before you start making any plans. Listen to them! THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

I’ll bet someone here could give you a few good referrals if you asked?

Good luck, man. I hope it all works out and you find something to make you happy.

I’m totally starting to think you guys are viewing this thread to stare at the canvas and not the art… LOL

Uh… What? Who? I’m sorry. Did someone say something? Where am I? (This is embarrassing…)

Seriously, some good looking ink. Most people get butchered when they get ink at 14, yours looks pretty good. I like the stars on the side, too. Very nice look.

Very nice! I really like the traditional Japanese style tattoos. 9 1/2 hours in one sitting? Congrats on the stamina, man… I’d have to break that up into like 8 sessions!

I’d rule out the center of your chest. The fingers don’t really take ink too well, either. Wears off after a few years fairly regularly.

I think the thigh has some promise. You can hide it easily enough.

Question though: Shouldn’t it be your BF that gets his badge number tattooed on him since he’s the one that had the accomplishment? It’s great that you want to celebrate him, but if it were my GF, I’d want her to get my badge number because it represented me (sort of like getting my name but not so corny/cheesy/stupid as getting an actual name inked on you), not my accomplishment.

Good luck with it! Let us know what you decide!

My thoughts as above, if you have a body like that, I’m sure most tattoos would look good lol
Personally if you are prepared to get a whole arm and side done, just think of what you can have with a picture tattoo from an awesome artist.

I don’t like this style of tattoo either.

Not to mention that this pic is a Photoshop

Yeah, that guy could have a tattoo of a giant turd and it would look good because he’s ripped. And I have to agree, that’s a Photoshop deal.

Plus, that is a very agressive first tattoo. You haven’t had a needle touch your skin and your going to do a multi-session piece of work, though. I would really be sure, but if so, go do as advised above and find an artist you like and trust, they will help you with the design.

Good luck! Let us know what you decide.

First of all, if you like your tattoo, then don’t worry what anyone else thinks. They don’t have to wear it, you do. Don’t change it just because some yahoo said it was “trendy”.

Secondly, if you do want to get it covered or added to, you need to find an artist in your area that does work you like and ask them. You may not need to do a full cover-up, could be added to or enhanced. Tell them what you are looking to do and see what they say. If you want them to draw something up for you then you will need to give them a deposit, but they will apply this to the cost of your tattoo. They aren’t going to work on designing your new tattoo for free, unfortunately.

Can you post a pic here? Some folks here are artists or very good with artwork, you may get some free ideas.

Congrats! I hope all goes well!

A hollowed log, maybe with something poking out, like an animal or something, could be very cool. That’s a neat idea. Is there any animal that could be representative of your son or even your wife? Maybe a favorite teddy bear, or even a family pet? You could have som e real fun with it!

Let us know how it all goes and what you decide. And get some sleep. You’re gonna need it… 😉

6 months out should be plenty of time to book an appointment with one of the better shops. You can email these artists directly, see if they have any availability, and even go over your concept and ideas to have a concept dine before you get there. Even May might be enough time. I mean, some of the worlds best can be a year or more out, but most good shops will have appointments during the weekdays.

Make some calls, send some emails, and get booked! Its going to be on you forever! Get what you want by who you want and enjoy!

By the way, thank God no one has said High Voltage yet…
