Work on your shading!! I like the simple stuff, with only markers/dot shading/lines, but that childportrait… I’m sorry, but it’s bad. If you’re gonna do portraits in that style, please please learn how to shade and how to add depth. His eyes look like he’s dead. A human face has no lines. Use different kinds of pencils, shading tools, use…[Read more]

replied to the topic Two kinds of white ink??? in the forum General Tattoo Discussion 12 years, 10 months ago
There is a huge difference between the type of ink as well. There are a ton of brands and types of ink, so the results will vary. Some kinds will turn yellow, some will just fade away, and some will stick for a long time.
I have quite a bit of white in my sleeve, parts of it were done more than four years ago and guess what – Still white.
Ofc its…[Read more] -

For me it’s two things; The linework is uneven. Not everywhere, but it is in quite a few places.
It’s the composition of the design.. It looks like it was drawn by someone who doesn’t get design. Just “I’ll place a leaf here, and one there!” with no regard for how it all works together. Artists usually have a very good eye for just this, but…[Read more] -

Yes, it’s easy to hide. But it really should be healed before you push it up. You could always get a piece of jewelry that’s meant for being hidden from the start.
But just be relaxed, get a good nights sleep, eat well and remember to breathe, and you should be good! ๐ I’ve worked as a piercer, and usually when clients pass out on me, it’s…[Read more]

All looks very good, but with the top one the lack of symmetry is irritating me, and the minor mistakes in where the light falls… ๐ But that’s just me being all kind of weird! The leafs look all wrong. But it’s probably just because I can’t see the entire tattoo! Looks like very solid work though ๐

That looks kind of terrible. Sorry. And I’m still confused it those red spots are blood, ink, old scars or if the artist really really fucked up your skin…
Also pretty curious about what you’re adding to this! -

Could you get a picture that’s better, and without so much glare and blood?

My perspective is a bit distorted, as my boss is indeed ridiculously fast! ๐ And yeah, its hard to tell the detail in the picture! But it looks really good and I love the story behind it. And it all changes a bit when its someone you know really well that tattoos you ๐

Talking is fine, but man.. 30 hours. That is insanely slow. I would’ve guessed 6-8 hours on something like that. It’s a nice piece, but it’s not that detailed or complex really.
I would’ve expected to see linework and shading finished in one, and then color in one.. I just can’t wrap my head around how that process must have been ;P
But, I’m sure…[Read more] -

you’ve got tons of time to figure out all the things you want! A sleeve takes time anyways, and you can figure it out as you go ๐
I just started my second sleeve six months ago, and I’m having ideas for other things I’d like to incorporate in it like three times a day ;P Let your artist run with it, communicate with him about your ideas, and it…[Read more] -

I like them, clean work.
But damn your artist is slow!!! Five sessions on that piece on your back?? That’s insane. My entire sleeve took about the same amount of time.
Artists work in very very different speeds, but I’ve never heard of anyone taking that long on something like that! Good thing you’re so happy about them! ๐ -

You need to go find an amazing artist and have him/her draw it up for you. You can have someone make you a very pretty drawing, but that doesn’t mean it’s gonna work as a tattoo. This kind of thing needs to be drawn to fit your body, and the artist you chose probably wants to do the entire artwork themselves.
A lot of artists love this kind of…[Read more] -

Add color!!! My first thought was “this is begging for some color”
Should be no problem at all for a good color artist to make this piece look really good! And I’ve become a tattoo snob myself.. But I also discovered that pretty much every single tattoo artist and collector with amazing ink, has some pretty shitty ones as well.. ๐ When you’ve…[Read more]

Thank you very much! ๐ Yeah, I love my gasmask ^^ the design kind of just came to me when I was listening to Coheed and cambrias newest album, and “The afterman” came on. I agree with GrayCatLove, sometimes you don’t even realize yourself the true symbolism of a tattoo. One of mine is such as well – It was just right, and the symbolism is very strong to me, but very hard for anyone else to understand just by looking at it.
A phd is a great accomplishment, you could find a tattoo that relates to your field as well.…[Read more] -

I think you’ve got your lingo confused.
Why don’t you post some pictures of the kind of styles you like? Doesn’t have to be a phoenix, but one that has this “no outlining” that you like, the kind of colors, fading etc. If you get your tattoo artist to draw it(and I think you should), it’s probably gonna make it a lot easier for them too if you can…[Read more] -
