I keep hearing people talking about “Pain” when having tattoo’s.. It wasn’t like that in my day, you pretended it didn’t hurt as you had to look tough in front of everyone! I know modern tattoo’s have a lot more detail in them than the old school type of the past, but is it really as bad as people keep saying?

Damn can you say that again. Good ink on a well defined arm is sure to make most women, and every Englishman, within view swoon.

You mean people actually *DO* cut tattoos off? I shouldn’t be surprised. Not so long ago we had someone ask if they could remove their son’s tattoo with paint thinner, thus giving birth to the Sherav Step by Step Method of Tattoo Removal. Personally, I think a powersander woulda been easier, but to each their own.
Seriously though, look at the…[Read more]

I’ve been told it has to do with the quality of the ink used, and the amount of sun exposure the tattoo receives in its lifetime. Apparently getting a tattoo done twenty years ago in the navy with a homemade tattoo gun in questionable hygienic conditions doesn’t translate to quality, long lasting ink.
Who knew?

I see you still haven’t addressed the safety issue though–have fun getting cancer!

If you don’t want to have regrets, I’d first suggest not getting a text only tattoo. No matter how good they look on paper, they oh so often look like shit on your skin. Plus, let’s face it, it’s lame to just have a tag line on you.
But, and think this is the bigger issue, if you don’t know what you want, wait. Flash work, kanji, or even having…[Read more]

I’m going to differ from the crowd and tell you that text only tattoos are almost universally lame, and while they look good on paper, often look like crap on your skin. I’ve only seen one exception, and in that case the lettering was so large, flowing, and subtly shaded with green and black that it became more of a design than text…[Read more]

Um, dude, do you think before you open your mouth? Yes, you’re 21 now, but tattoos are for life, and are you still gonna be some idiot club rat when you’re 45? Also, did you miss the part where UV ink ain’t exactly safe?

While we’re on advice, do not get any of the tattoos in your album marked “Tattoos I’ll probably get”. Only vapid skank co-eds get kanji or that cliché celtic knot.
Your tattoos are your bona fides–they show what you, as a prospective tattoo artist, are interested in, who you are, and what you’re hoping to accomplish. Having kanji and fucking…[Read more]

First off, ignore Jaypsan. He’s a spammy bastard.
Second off, I’m in Cincinnati at DAAP, and I’m going to art school for the express purpose of getting my art up to tattoo artist levels so *I* can get apprenticed.
So, speaking as someone on the same path as you, in the same city, and I’m guessing quite a bit older and more road damaged, let me…[Read more]
