Noticed I screwed up in my last response and can’t seem to find an edit capability – not enough coffee. My reply should have said that several times that day I was in situations where I could have been killed, from the initial impact where the plane went directly under our office suite, to the explosion that blew in our windows and left holes in the floor, to when I was out on the 3rd floor of the E Ring assisting in evacuating people and clearing offices just before the upper floors collapsed down on the 3rd. I was exceptionally lucky….but many colleagues were not. I wear this tattoo as a sign of resolve to never forget their sacrifice.
Thanks for taking the time to comment on my art – it does have tremendous meaning and, given this was the 15th anniversary, it seemed time to do something for myself. I was very close to the point of impact and several times could have ended up walking out that day. This piece is a recognition of that day, as well as the 26 years I served on active duty in the Army.
Welcome to the forum!!
Welcome to the forum!! That is some amazing work!! Can’t wait to see your next. I just got my first a few months ago – a wolf and tribal marks on my left shoulder/upper arm.
Welcome!! What are your ideas for your first? I got my first about 3 months ago and am working on the design for my second.
Welcome! I think it is looking great! I didn’t notice the moon until you mentioned it – the rest is awesome and captures the eye. The moon could have been better…but the rest is so good!!
I believe it represents the Crescent Moon – one of the oldest symbols used in history. As opposed to the Sun, which was perceived as having male properties, the Moon as seen as being representative of the female side. The Sun, Moon and stars were seen as giving off energy that could be used and captured. The energy of the Moon related to intuition, compassion, and having psychic and intuitive abilities. It was not just a male and female thing – both genders use masculine and feminine energies according to ancient history. My best guess is that this symbol represents a commitment to use the feminine trait of intuition to guide one’s life – to go with what is in one’s heart and mind when making decisions. In effect, to do what one feels is right.
The Crescent Moon and Star is used by Islam and Islamic nations, not just the crescent moon.
I learned quickly that a key is to use just a little of whatever you are putting on it. It looks to me like you have some scabbing and some small bumps under the skin in places – you may be having a mild allergic reaction to the ink. That would account for the itching. Did you try taking Benadryl? It is non-prescription and might knock the itch out. In any case – go easy on the ointment. A little goes a long way.
Wow! It looks fantastic and seems to be healing well! Congratulations!
I am a newbie to the world of tattoos but both age and my first tattoo have validated the advantages of some lotion each day. I also use Aveeno of late but have also used cocoa butter in the past, too. I generally apply a light amount after showering in the morning and then before bed. The key seems to be a “light” amount just like during the healing process. A little goes a long way – don’t overdo it and make sure you rub it in well and blot off the excess.
Welcome. I’m a relative virgin, too – just got my first about 3 months ago!
I should, perhaps, be tragically affected by some comment aimed my way…but since I can’t see it I will blissfully remain contented. I am reminded of a device my father-in-law had for years. It was called The Bug Zapper. It was a light surrounded by electrical coils that you would hang outside at night – bugs would be attracted by the light and then electrocute themselves on the coils. I see great similarities here with our OP.
I have to thank the Mods for providing the “Ignore” function. Watching this train-wreck-in-motion having used Ignore has been sublime. It certainly has reinforced my thoughts on the winning combination of arrogance, self-entitlement and immaturity.
I will be sending my tattooist a message this morning to stop his work on designing my next tattoo. I am positive someone here will draw it for me and then he can just copy someone else’s work. Tattoists love to be sublimated to the level of kindergarten paint-by-number artists. No?
