Welcome! I’m a tattoo mommy too! 🙂 I’ve only been a member of the forum for a couple of weeks. Lots of ladies joining lately. Post some pics of your ink!

Hello and welcome. I’m new to the forum too…only been here a couple of weeks. I don’t have tons of time to post but I try to drop in every couple of days. I have 4 tattoos. No piercings anymore, but I used to have tongue, eyebrown, naval, vertical hood and 10 in my ears. I’ve seen a few girls posting on here so we’re not alone! Welcome!

Sorry to hear about your situation. I admire you for respecting your wife’s desires, and not bad-mouthing her on here because of them. With that said though, I do believe you should fight for what you want (figuratively speaking). I think sometimes people forget how short life is…and you only get one! So keep talking with her about it…try a compromise rather than letting her just saying no flat out. Maybe there is something she has been wanting to get/to do that you haven’t wanted her to? Just a thought…

Also, I’m a corporate auditor, so tattoos aren’t really acceptable in my line of work either (people are usually shocked that I have tattoos, and that I had piercings in college…I guess auditors are just “supposed” to be conservative). So far I have 4 and I’m about to get another fairly large one one my hip. All can be easily hidden by clothing, except for the one on the top of my foot. During interviews, I wear pants, and cover it up with a large bandaid and hose and no one has ever noticed :p

As for your family being conservative, mine too. My mom seriously thought the devil had a hold of me when I got my tongue pierced at 18. She cried. I come from a Christian family (“your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit…so glorify God in your body”), so it was frowned upon, to say the least. When I got my first tattoo, she had much the same reaction. But you know what? Since then I’ve had an eyebrow and vertical hood piercing and 3 additional tattoos, and she’s over it. It’s a non-issue. She still loves me, and has given up on keeping me from getting tattoos. Unless you truly believe that your families would disown you forever, I don’t think you should let them be a deciding factor whatsoever, IMHO. They love you for who you are inside, not for your external appearance….hopefully…lol 😀

Hopefully you’re wife will reconsider and come through for you soon!

Hi

Well I am going to step in and say I actually like that tattoo. Whilst I am not a tribal fan as in I would not have it done on myself there is nothing wrong with that ink.

I have seen horrendous tribal tatts and that does not fall into that category.

If you were to incorporate both sets of ink I would suggest relining the tribal and the blue so it stands out more and adding some side panels of pale blue.

I would possibly add some celtic knotwork or use ivy and blue petals to work with the tribal and wrap into it and then drop some side bars in the same style as the one above.

If you really dislike it you can always cover it with some heavy floral but really it is nothing that reshade and a bit of adding to wouldn’t solve.

Take Care
Matthew

I really appreciate your response Matthew. It’s refreshing to hear your opinion and suggestions. I really don’t hate the tattoo, I just wish they’d flow better. You have some really great ideas though…I’m excited about the prospect of leaving it mostly intact with just some enhancements. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with me!

Thanks to both of you! Great thread Arni. And the coverup really turned out AMAZING. I definitely have faith now!

Ah, so I guess when you said at least the tribal isn’t thick and hard to cover, this is what you meant. Looks like we are having the same problem, but apparently mine is easier to solve. You really have some great ideas so far though!

You could very easily turn that into some type of flower piece going up your back. Or traditional japanese. The good thing is that the tribal is thin. There isn’t massive sections of black to hide or work with

You really think so? Either of those would be awesome! I guess I am just so naive about what artists are capable of doing. I did ask one tattoo artist a couple of years ago about it and he told me there was nothing he could do. He said if he added black in or around the original, it would bleed into the blue and look horrible. I’m guessing he just wasn’t interested in doing it for me…

Funny you should mention the Japanese idea too. I’m talking with a guy next week about doing cherry blossoms and kanji on my side.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Having a very different experience here than the other tattoo forum I joined yesterday (and am no longer a member of today)…and let me say that this one seems far superior.

you could add some more blue either side of the tribal tattoo in the same style as you already have and then think about adding matching koi’s each side too

I definitely think there’s some way to incorporaite the colors from each tattoo into the other. I guess I will need to have my artist think of something specific. You’re right though, adding something else matching on both sides can also help tie them together. Thanks!

Glad I’m not the only one regretting the tribal 😀

Shhhhh!! I don’t know what you’re talking about! LOL. I don’t really think I’d regret it as much if I had at least gotten something with an outline or different colors. I really should’ve done some research beforehand, but what can you really tell an 18 year old, ya know? Oh well. I don’t hate it, but I certainly don’t love it anymore. Hopefully my artist can turn it into something I will love again! 😮

I have just said those words, the feedback from your artist might surprise you, my artist has come up with a great idea for some adding on to my back, looking forward to getting started on it. I’d say bite the bullet and ask………..

Thanks, I am definitely planning on asking next week!

I’m no artist either…
so I couldn’t help ya in that department.

But I find the best method for inspiration to be just heading down to my artist’s shop and asking him.
I don’t mean that in a rude way, but really…they’re pros and I trust (at least my artist) their judgment.

Thanks for responding. I am planning on seeing my guy at the end of next week. I was just hoping to have some ideas in mind before hand ya know? I just hate to go in there and say “I have no idea what to do with this….”
