Deff check up on portfolios, and don’t be afraid to travel a bit out of your way to get a decent tattoo.
Make sure the artist has expierence doing portraits, and make sure the actual photo is included with the tattoo in their portfolios.

Honestly, I’d just cover it up cause personally; I wouldn’t spend money trying to add to it just for me to try and like it. I’d get something more meaningful, or atleast interesting to me over it or something.

Color portraits are pretty difficult, so you’ll need to check around before you get it. Not everyone can do them, so if it isn’t done properly; it will look pretty weak.

So make sure you check out portfolios for color portraits.
