like i said, just go in to see him…… i am sure he will be happy to sort it out for you, but you need to explain why your not happy with it and that way you can both come up with a plan of action.
the artist would much rather you are happy with what he has done as its his reputation on the line here, and as said by another member.. not all artists are willing to work on someone elses work, i dont like working on other peoples work unless there is a real good reason for the original artist cant finish it.

i started a large rib piece on someone last year…. i got the outline done and she tapped out on me, i have since seen her and she has had another person start to fill it in but not to her liking, i personally dont want to work on her again and feel she has made her mind up to go elsewhere….. she thought she was getting a good deal when he said he will do it free of charge for her…… shame he totally fucked it up 😡

now she is screwed because nobody will finish it off !!

“give your artist a chance to sort it out” 😉

Thank you, you have pretty much put my mind at ease.
As i said i have emailed my original artist and he normally takes a few days [maybe a week] to reply so i will give him a chance, if not i will call him in a week or so and explain exactly what i mean.

I wouldnt want him to think that i thought bad of his work so i am glad i have come on here to ask about it all before i go and see anyone else.
Fingers crossed that i shall be saying im fully happy with my tattoo in a months time.

And i only originally said i would go to another artist because i feel a bit embarrassed keep asking my artist to touch up my tattoo, everyone else say’s it looks fine but im just not happy with it, and im sure you all know what its like, no tattoo is perfect but you want it to look good right…. 🙂

Of course i won’t make out that I know best, but I shall make him aware that I am not happy with how my tattoo looks, hopefully he will sort it for me without getting all pissy but if he decides not to I shall go elsewhere.

Its my tattoo on my skin and at the end of the day I want it to look good and surely by going back to my original artist makes him understand I like his original work!

Just go. Its your skin that is rocking HIS art.

Also before you get him to work on it, talk about it and have him tell you what he’s going to do to fix it. That way you can sort of dictate if what he’s doing is going to be what you want.

If he doesn’t understand that you want it completely perfect, then 😡 Shit, I don’t know what to tell you if he gets all pissy about it. He should understand that this is your first tatt and you want it completely perfect. If he gives you excuses for the crap he doesn’t want to fix the way you want it, leave.

Sure tattoo artists get annoyed by someone asking them about their work since they’re supposed to be the experts that you’re seeking their professional help from but hey, you have a right to know what the F is going on with it.

Also…… Take him food too. Tattoo artists like getting food. He’ll be more likely to work with you the way you want him to if you bring a little something for him to eat or snack on. Shit, you can call him and tell him you need to come see him for a touch up and ask him what kind of food he likes, you’ll pick up something for him. They’re more receptive. Usually.

I have just emailed him [He always opens his emails], telling him about my concerns and asked if it would be okay to pop into the shop, so if he replies all pissie to the email then i will not even bother going to see him.

Im proud of his work, dont get me wrong but i dont want to live not being happy with my first tattoo, the whole tattoo is only 2 inches wide and 2 inches long to be aproximate and its only about a centermeter that needs colouring in [Pathetic i know].
In the email i stated i was sorry for being a pain and how i loved the tattoo in general so hopefully he understands.

And about the food, il offer him some when i walk into the shop, not that the touch up will take that long but yeah, im not used to all these hour long tattoos so i have never really thought about buying him food but yeah.
This is my first tattoo and my only tattoo right now and untill this is perfected i don’t want to get another one.

If of course he does get pissy, is it right to see another artist about it ?

You cant necessarily go to another artist to work on someone else’s piece. Generally, most tattoo artists won’t work on another artist’s art unless tatt is finished, the original guy is unreachable or other really special situations. Just a bit of ethics.

But who knows, you might get someone who would work on it for you. First, I’d go back to the original artist and have them work with you on the parts that you want perfected.

If there just isn’t any compromise between you two and you both just can’t see eye to eye on the tatt, then you might have to drop the guy and explain yourself to the next artist that you were really unhappy. Just don’t go dropping the guy’s name out there. You will find that tattoo artists all sort of know each other and it might come back to bite you in the ass.

I kinda did think of emailing the original artist and talking to him about it, but im just a bit concerned that he may get annoyed with me keep going back their to have work done.
It generally does need re touching for the thrid time, well just a little part, but im just worried about what i should say to him, i dont want him to think that i think his work is rubbish if you know what i mean ?

Thanks for the replies people.

I will take my mind off it for another 5 weeks or so and pop into my loca town to another artist to see what he can do.
Its just this is my first tattoo and obviously i want to be happy with it, but my original touch up has not yet satisfied me so i may try another artist, Right ?

Well i have two crossed hammers as i am a west ham fan.
And the bit i dont like is on one of the hammer heads, it doest look bad its just the fact i knows it there, where i have had it touched up, the artist has missed a bit and the majority of it looks black but thier is a feint line on the top that i keep looking at that hasnt been coloured in.

To others it is probably not even noticeable and im probably just making it out to be really bad because im pretty sure no tattoo is perfect, its just the fact i know its their, i keep looking at it ?…

Im no where near an oil spillage or anything, my beach is generally quite normal.
I mean i can cope with not putting my tattoo under the water because it is on my wrist, but i keep hearing that one minute its okay to swim in the sea then the next person tells me it is not!

Thanks every body for your replies, you have put my mind at ease.
When i look at it from far away it looks amazing and i guess this is the same for the majority of people, i have booked to have a touch up on wednesday anyway, but having read replies from this forum im not too worried anymore.

Kind regards.

P.s, I did post this ‘post’ twice because i didn’t think i had submitted it. Sorry. 🙂

I would have suggested Aquaphor. 1-2 times a day for the first few days and then swith to lotion like lubriderm. What kind of soap are you using to wash it with? Some bar soaps cause dryness. Dial works well.

I am just using anti bacterial handwash as advised by someone on here, however i have stopped that since yesterday and i am not putting cream on it.
Shouldt i still be washing it, and would it harm it to put savalon or aqueous cream on the tattoo, or shoudl i stopped all together ?

Thank you, for everyone’s feedback, im feeling more relaxed about it all now.

Il just wait and see what it looks like at the end of the month or longer, go see my artist and see what he recommends.
A touch-up will probably be the best answer :).

Kind regards

Yea, after 10 days you don’t need to put anything on it. If it is peeling, let it be. Wash it 3 times a day with anti-bacterial soap and pat dry. Don’t pick scabs! It will dry out and itch, thats normal. If you need to put something on it, use a non-petroleum, unscented skin lotion.

Let it heal for at least 6 weeks before getting a touch up.

Who’s the artist? Where’d you get your ink?

Thank you, this is really helpful and i have also just this minute recieved an email saying “come in when it has fully healed and we will go from there” So basically il see what my artist recommends, but for now i shall follow your instructions :).

Andy [ i think his name is ] and i had it done at “Wildside tattoo studio’s” in bognor regis 😮

Once again, thank you.

I shall post a picture when my laptop decides to work properly.

But all im worried about is 2 parts on the tattoo, the rest i am happy with, and its clear that touch-ups are common and i guess that is what il be doing, but how long should i wait before i go back and ask for a touch up?

Should i stop using cream alltogether or do you reccommend something different ?
Im just a bit worried it might dry up, then again im worried im not letting it peel

Thanks, its just this is my first tattoo and im unsure of how it should look at this stage, although it did look a little un coloured when i got it done.

And it is now at the peeling stage, so do i leave it to peel, or do i keep putting savalon on it ?

I just hope im doing the right thing, and i don’t want to keep bugging my tattoo artist because he seems to be getting Annoyed!
