So after my consultation I realized this is going to cost way more than I thought. What is the etiquette on trying to go lower on price? I realize this is going to be expensive and I’m willing to pay, however he gave me a flat price (not hourly) and it’s way more than I thought. Do you have to just roll with the price or is negotiating appropriate??

ha yeah it’s going to be a tough decision, although I’m sure it will hit me at some point! I’ve looked at tons of photos online, next step is to hit the old public library and check out some book! If not, I’ll show up at the appt with all my pics and see what he thinks fits best with what I am covering.

Black and Grey!
I think color will cover it better! Save black and gray for another piece!

Very good. Is that picture in your album the “before” picture then?
Yeah, that is before. I don’t get on here much, so I haven’t updated it. I’ll post a pic in awhile. I got the removal done three days ago, so they said it’ll continue to lighten for the next 5 or so weeks. I already met with Joshua Carlton, and he said…[Read more]

If you’re talking about that thing on your chest, then if you want a “great work of art” I’d say you’re going to have to laser that sombitch first.

If he is going to have to wait I would just go with Benjamin Moss not that Jack is bad or anything
Apparently Benjamin lives in Germany…otherwise that’d be a realistic option!

I think he’s going to go with Jack Matisse. He’s b/g is amazing. Unfortunately he’s booked out until August though =/

Thanks for all of the posts. I’ll check out all of the portfolios. The post is actually for my brother, he’s the one planning on getting the tattoo. I’ll be sure to post a pic when he gets it! But yeah, I’m in Oregon and I have a consultation with Joshua Carlton today for a tattoo on my chest, excited for that!

On the tip subject..I’ve got an appointment with Remis (from Ireland) at an Oregon tattoo shop. I went to Oregon State University and was thinking of bringing him an OSU t-shirt to take home (no idea what size he wears though), you think that would be a legit tip? Also, never done something like that before, would you just walk in and give it to…[Read more]

Oh okay sounds good, that’s logical. Yeah I notices that on his blog..so I’ll just wait and see when he gets back to me. I just hate waiting to hear back, meanwhile forfeiting a spot with another potential artist ( if he takes too long to reply) thanks for the input, real helpful!

I’ve done my best to look at all of the portfolios of the various artists attending the Portland tattoo expo. Do any other names besides Russ Abbott stick out to you as well-known talented artists?

oh okay, I think I’m gonna hold off and wait for Russ Abbott (in hopes of getting an appointment). I think his style should be able to mesh with what I have, with the use of some color too.

Yeah, I never thought of adding color to it, but I bet he’d do it nicely. As I mentioned, never been to a convention..do you try and book an appt with them there? or is it first come first serve and hope they want to do your tattoo?

Yeah I think I might hit the expo. I looked at most of the artists portfolios and it looked like Russ Abbott and Carl Grace stuck out to me ( I tend to gravitate towards black and gray realism (although Abbott isn’t). Never been to one, so it’d probably be a fun experience either way.
