i don’t think the words tribal or kanji belong in a thread titled with the word “originality.”

i think it’d be cool to have a bunch of artists work on a single design, each with their own perspective. it would look like patchwork because none of the art would be uniform. i may do that

definitely fill the space in with some shading. maybe fill the tribal with some brights like reds and oranges, and fill the background in with darker colors like navy blue. my friend has a similar sleeve that looks great.

part of the problem with yours is that tribal looks a lot better if it’s filled in/shaded, rather than just an outline like you have. throw in the fact that yours is just wrapping around what seems like older tattoos, and i can see why most people are in agreement that the blank space needs to be filled in.

anyway, just my two cents.

i really like your idea of relating to your childhood with a hometown icon. having said that, i don’t feel like the bicep would be the best area for a lighthouse-themed tattoo. if you want to accentuate the lighthouse itself, a larger area of your body, such as the chest or back, would be much better IMO. but it’s up to you.

Your post really doest sound like the work of a person who lives a life defined by the idea of ataraxia.
You even wrote the word worried in your post twice which doesnt show peace of mind or freedom from worry.
In addition the concept of needing it where you can see it further contradicts the foundation of you stated desire for the tattoo.
Maybe the best advice I can give you right noow would be to hang fire a while and be sure you understand what your about to tattoo onto your body for ever and how much it really means to you.

Exactly. I don’t live my life by the idea of ataraxia, hence the reason why I want to have a reminder of it on my body.

svendsgaard, i like that idea. I’ll look at some old english fonts.any more ideas would be appreciated! 🙂
