I have a tattoo idea and I’ve been tossing up whether to use white ink or scarring so I’ve been checking out a lot of pics. The main downside to white tats I’ve seen is that a lot seem to either turn yellowish, blotchy or fade so much you can’t really see them at all. Especially if, like me, you want the design in a place that will be exposed to the sun a lot.
Scarring downsides seem to be that it’s harder to get a clean, smooth line. And because it depends on how your body heals you might end up with scars that look completely different to how you wanted them to. And some parts might scar more deeply than other parts, making the design uneven.
I think your Harry Potter design would look good as a scar, and it’s a simple design so it would probably be pretty easy.
Good luck with whatever you choose, and post pics when you’re done! 🙂

Thanks! I want this to be behind my ear, so it’ll be exposed whenever my hair is pulled up. Do white tattoo touch ups work in the same way others do? What I mean is, if it starts to get yellow-ish or fade, if it was redone, would it be white again?

I’m still leaning much more towards white ink, but will research more about scarification.

And I’ll definitely post pics whenever I get it! 🙂

I guess I should explain the tattoo.

I’m a massive book nerd, and the Harry Potter series is what really got me into reading, so in order to represent that, I want a small lightning bolt tattoo like Harry’s scar (though not on my forehead.) I was considering getting it done in white ink, because it’s light and won’t be easily noticeable, like a scar.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t really want a scar though…
I’ll check flickr.

Do you think I’d still have problems with it if I only got it twice as big? I wouldn’t want it any bigger than that.

The possibilities are endless. Think about some things that you’re interested in and are a big part of your life that are worth representing on your body. We can’t do that for you.

What are you thinking of getting?

The only two that I know for sure that I want at the moment is one that starts on my hip and reaches around to my lower back and a small lightning bolt behind my left ear (it’s symbolic).

I’m a dancer, and I want something dance related. I have a few possible ideas, I just haven’t made up my mind on one yet.
