I know you’ve probably seen a million threads about this, but I’m curious to see how white tattoos look over an extended period of time. I’m interested in getting one, because I’ve heard they fade and look scar-like over time, and that’s what I want for one of my tattoos I have planned.

So if anyone has had one and doesn’t mind sharing pictures, I’d highly appreciate it.

if thats what you want to you need to find someone who specialises in tattoo’s done with water and not white ink.
don’t think anyone here has just a white tattoo ! you will get better results searching on flickr .
i have seen loads there

Scarification really leads to better “scar” results.

And what white ink does is fades and looks yellowish.
It kinda’ looks like an ugly patch of old-person-skin.
Haha.

Tattooing with water will lead to scaring, but the results may vary from person to person and some areas will scar more than others.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t really want a scar though…
I’ll check flickr.

I’m confused so you want a scar like tattoo and want to use ink that will fade quick, but you dont want to use a technique like scarification. I’m lost…

i cant see the point in having something that looks like a scar, normally people want something to cover a scar emote_google.gif

I guess I should explain the tattoo.

I’m a massive book nerd, and the Harry Potter series is what really got me into reading, so in order to represent that, I want a small lightning bolt tattoo like Harry’s scar (though not on my forehead.) I was considering getting it done in white ink, because it’s light and won’t be easily noticeable, like a scar.

I have some white on my sleeve and even though it isn’t years old yet it hasn’t faded at all and still looks as white as when I got it. It was done with Intenze ink so maybe white done with a very cheap ink would fade more but I’d consider other options to get the look it sounds like you want.

These are all at least a couple of years old according to captions/descriptions:

I have a tattoo idea and I’ve been tossing up whether to use white ink or scarring so I’ve been checking out a lot of pics. The main downside to white tats I’ve seen is that a lot seem to either turn yellowish, blotchy or fade so much you can’t really see them at all. Especially if, like me, you want the design in a place that will be exposed to the sun a lot.
Scarring downsides seem to be that it’s harder to get a clean, smooth line. And because it depends on how your body heals you might end up with scars that look completely different to how you wanted them to. And some parts might scar more deeply than other parts, making the design uneven.
I think your Harry Potter design would look good as a scar, and it’s a simple design so it would probably be pretty easy.
Good luck with whatever you choose, and post pics when you’re done! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks! I want this to be behind my ear, so it’ll be exposed whenever my hair is pulled up. Do white tattoo touch ups work in the same way others do? What I mean is, if it starts to get yellow-ish or fade, if it was redone, would it be white again?

I’m still leaning much more towards white ink, but will research more about scarification.

And I’ll definitely post pics whenever I get it! ๐Ÿ™‚
