I try to get 20-30 mins of sun per day (except in winter). I just cover my tattoos with sunblock or a shirt. As long as you’re not out in the midday sun for hours on end its fine.

Alright. Thats good.
But the thing is i cant hide it with a t-shirt. I have too wear a sweatshirt or what you call it. Thick and long sleeve. Thats too hot when its summer…

But yeah, i could just be less in the sun. Thanks for the reply

Nope it will never happen to you.
Every year, more than 500,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed, they account for one-third of all new cancers.

You sir are retarded

Ok. I might have had that information wrong then…
But if i should get skin cancer, which is a small % of all the human population on tellus, id have to deal with it then. Now i really dont care that it will happen to me.

And you dont need to call me a retard because i dont think about skin cancer all day long. Fucker! 😉

I like the sun too and as I said, I am outdoors all the time, but I’m wise enough not to go out baking in it except on rare occasions.

Well we can tell you’re young by your comments. We were all that stupid once. 🙂 And sure, everyone likes a nice tan, but if you do it too often you will pay the price by the time you hit your 40s because excess sun exposure most certainly does age your skin.

Most premature aging is caused by sun exposure.” (Source)

“You may walk away from the beach with a suntan, but that’s not all you’re getting. Excessive sun exposure is responsible for most of the sun damage associated with aging skin. This sun damage accumulates slowly over time and starts at an early age. While some of the sun damage is merely cosmetic, other effects, such as skin cancer, are more serious.” (Source)

I get it though. You’re young and going to do what you’re going to do. We’re just trying to educate you.

/nods

Alright, thanks.
maybe i should lay on the beach less or just cover up my tattoo with a towel then…
I bought some stuff thats called INK ARMOR before, but i think its a bit silly if i should wear that on my arm.
Nah. I will expose it but use sun lotion.

I did not mean to be rude about my comment before. Its ofcourse horrible for people that GET skin cancer. I myself just dont worry about getting it. Its a small procent.
And maybe the sun will make me look more older, but thats fine. I dunno if i will even be 30 years old, soo…
Time will tell.

yeah man, i appreciate the education. Just didnt think sun was such a big deal when dealing with tattoos.
But i will ask on another forum too…
And i dont have a Horiyoshi III tattoo. Then i would be more carefull. Maybe. 😉
Peace

100 years ago at the turn of the century a tan marked you as being part of a group of people who had to labor in the sun, your tan demostrated to the world that you were not wealthy and you had to labor…………..it was avoided and the fariest skin was treasured as being the most beautiful,
I believe it is the most beautiful still,

have you seen the ladies who are 40-50-60 now thast lived the sun life?? your skin pays a terrible price

everyone should get a little sun, its good for the body, however, i wear high spf everytime I am out in the sun, even a light shirt does not offer enough spf to protect your work.

i recommend to young sun bunnies to wait on the ink, ink and the sun life are just not compatible

what the sun does to a tattoo you will not in many cases be able to fix, it FUCKS them up royally in many cases…………the ones I have seen and mention have to be covered up

Well, i dont agree. Like people who are living on hawaii or something, and are older. They look beautiful.
And i have searched the internet for like before and after with pictures of a tattoo that has been faded. But i could not find much. Anyways. They will all fade in time anyways. Maybe exept pale vampires who stay out of the sun completely;)

But they will still grow older.

But sure, i will have the sun in consideration. (Wrong spelling. Cant think of the right word.)

And about the “fariest skin”. I dont know the word. But if you mean pale. Then i dont agree…
People are created to be out in the sun and nature. Working and stuff.

Cavemen are another thing, but thats way back. 😉

I can give photographic evidence of what happens when a new tattoo gets sun. I’ve seen it with my own eyes on my own body. I was on a boat for a few hours about three days after I got tattooed. Mild redness over the entire tattoo (which was under a white shirt) tattoo faded. Not incredibly, but enough for me to keep my newly tattooed a$$ out of the sun. I don’t worry about the sun that much if I’m all healed up. But then again I’m not an outdoors man. I’m an indoorsman. If i know I’m going to be outside I just sunblock up. At the end of the day sun exposure to a new tattoo is very bad. Sun exposure to tattoos in general is bad. Even black fades.

Like I said in my previous post, I like a nice tan also, but do it too often and your looks are going to suffer.

Check this guy out. It’s rare that we can truly know exactly what effects excessive sun exposure has had on our skin, but this guy knows.

“The man on the picture, William McElligott, spent 28 years of his life driving a delivery truck in Chicago. Only the left side of his face was exposed to the sun, with the result that it now looks much older than the right side. His case is a rare reminder of the aging effects of the sun, but also of the need to take precautions when working under certain conditions.” (Source)

True. It is bad. But its an element which keeps the planet alive and all living things.
But i would never be in the sun 3 days after getting a tattoo. They fade easily when they are fresh. They need to heal atlest a month. Then its alright with sunblock, and “common sense”.

yeah, thats pretty rare.
If he did not have a monotonic job or the same side of the sun every day, people would not even notice his face.
But sure, there man did drive all day long for 28 years in the sun. Thats hot and a long time.

Heres some other examples.

But yeah, enough with this discussion. The sun is not good for a tattoo in the long run. But without the sun we would not be writing this neither of us.
But its a good thing we can protect the ink with sunblock. Thats good. Peace out

I love the sun like most people. Not less or more.
You dont even know me. I love the sun, AND i love tattoos. And i aint alone.

I know there is a risk for damage. But we will all die. Or grow old and die. Your tattoos will look wrinkled and badly when you are older too. So aging is a “threat” too.

The dude who gave me the tattoo is a real professional artist. And he said i could be in the sun after 1 month and use sunblock. Soo i dont really have too ask here.
But i will be indoors and outdoors. I got sunblock, thats a good thing. Would be worse if i was in the sun and choosed NOT to use sunblock.

kthnxbye

I would say your partially right. No sunblock until its completely healed. Which isn’t always only a month. I compare keeping tattoos covered from the sunlight like keeping milk in the fridge. Its going bad either way. But it lasts a lot longer in the fridge. Different strokes for different folks. Some people are anal about they’re work (with good reason) some people with low caliber work really don’t care. But I guarantee anyone who spends four to seven grand on a sleeve from a top rated artist isn’t going to be walking around in a sleeveless shirt on the side of some mountain. And this isn’t even getting into the whole skin cancer thing.
Noone is trying to tell you what to do. Your mind is made up. But as a proven fact, the sun is harmful to skin, and what’s harmful to the skin is harmful to a tattoo.

As for the whole three day thing. You live you learn.

Yeah man, i totally agree.
And sure i understand that if you get like an whole sleeve or something, then i understand that you will be more carefull.
Some more then others, some less then others.

Here is a nice video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llhEHNe62UM

They even give away their skin when they pass on to the other side.

Yeah, i know that by now. I will not be more or less in the sun then others. I will keep it to a healty level.
Will not become a vampire, and i will not become a surfer….yet. 😉

Yeah, life is a big lesson. Take care. *gone*

just throwing my 2 cents in and this is totally just my opinion…
you just bought a ferrari right? and your buddies are like bro gimme a ride lets cruise around and show it off! are you gonna say no man if i drive it its gonna put miles on it and then ill eventually have to get rid of it? thats how i feel some people are with tattoos, your so excited to get them but you always want them covered so whats the point? you spend 10s and 20s of thousands on cars, prob not more than half that on all of your tattoos combined! to get your car “touched” up is expensive most of the time, to get your tattoo touched up is free most of the time! so just live a little! i hate to say it but it seems like the peoples whos tattoos are the best looking (over longer time and not when it was first done) dont have the best body in the world. think about girls for a second (or guys if your a girl) would you find a girl with a tattoo that is perfect but doesnt have a great body more attractive then a girl with a tattoo thats a little faded but works out all the time and has a bangin body?! sorry for the rant!!
