Hi everyone,

A noob here. From the Uk – Hello to all!
I have one small tat at the top of my left arm close to my shoulder. Only around 2.5″ x 2.5″.
It is a Taz tattoo which for some reason I decided to get 10yrs ago. Foolish , yes
I’m been considering a sleeve tat for a long while now and would like it to cover up this relatively small tattoo. I dont have any pictures to upload but I’m sure google will provide plenty of similar tattoos 🙁
What I have been considering is covering the Taz with the circle part of a rising sun. The red circle covering the Taz and the rays going up onto my shoulder. This would be a start to the sleeve and I would gradually add below it down to the elbow/possibly forearm.
What I’d like to know is would it be possible to cover and is red a good colour to use for covering?? Or will the original still be visible slightly??
Any suggestions would be great here.

Thanks again

hello and welcome to the forums. like the above poster said it depends on the condition of the ink. im currently having a back piece covered. What my tattooist has done, is gone over the original with white over several sessisons. It has definetly made a difference and has lightened the black ink up. im hopeing when its all done you wont notice it too bad. hope this helps good luck.

Word to the wise ppornan adding white to black only ever works a little, I have several clients who have has 3 and 4 lots of white tattooed in with no visable differance at all. White inks can sometimes contain metals which can react with laser leaving a brown mark that nothing will get out.

If you laser black or red you will get a good bit out leaving an easier job for your artist to cover.
There are many examples of coverups where nothing is left of the old tattoo but sadly there are also lots where the old tattoo is quite obvious.

Youve had the taz for 10 years I doubt if one more will make a huge diiference to your life but it would make a huge difference to how your new tattoo looks.

I hope this helps bud let me know if I can answer any more questions.

Cheers for the advice so far, got a pic uploaded however it isnt great quality but hopefully will give an idea. Its faded a fair bit and theres not a massive amount of colour on it, so I was hoping it would cover fairly well.

As you say it can of course be covered by any good artist.
How well it will be covered is a factor of two things really the quality of the design, i.e. how much of the old Taz is used cleverly as part on the new image and secondly the amount of black or at least dark colours used.

By no means do you have to have any of the Taz removed but getting most or even some of the darker bits out can only help your artist to do a quality cover up.
