I have some scars that I want to cover up with tattoos. They are on my left and right forearms. I want to get a tree with no leaves on one forearm and a koi fish with some waves around it on the other forearm. The problem is that I saw a specialist a while back and she tattooed over the scars with ink that was the color of my skin but it had an unusual reaction with my skin and now the scars are slightly orange. I have some questions about getting the tattoos.

Will dark gray or light gray shading be able to mask the scars? What about the orange color?

Also, about the stencil thing they do- since they need to design the tattoo so that it will be able to mask the scars, do they draw a design on paper based on the scars and then run it through the stencil machine and then paste it onto your skin to get the purple ink on there?

Here’s a link to pictures of my scars and what I want to get tattooed:

Thanks.

You will need to talk to a tattoist about it. Most tattoists won’t tattoo over scars because of the way scar tissue forms. I suggest you go see a couple of tattooists and see what they say. If one person says yes but 9 say no then I wouldn’t bother getting it done.

As far as I’m aware, there’s no stensil machine and regardless of if there was they won’t be able to guarantee that they’d be able to cover up the scars. Saying that though, they’re not massive scars.

Also, I would suggest taking in the tattoo designs you’ve got on there and getting a tattooist to customise them because you don’t want the same tattoo that someone else has-they may have had their tattoo designed especially for them and they don’t really want people copying them.

My recent tattoo (January) healed pretty badly and the scab pulled off and the ink ripped out with them. My tattoo is now scarred badly and is STILL red and healing. My artist said once the scar heals, she will go over it but it looks like it’ll be quite some time. It’s been 3 months and my scar still isn’t healed and is still red.

As far as your scars, IMO, you would have NO issues. They are white, somewhat small and completley healed. Ask your tattooist, but it looks like tattooing over them should be no problem.

Hi

Yes those are surface scars and will cover up no problem as the pigment you are using is going to be much darker than the one used before.

From the colouration as well those are old scars (over 12 mths) so the healing beneath the skin will be fine.

A pro artist will size your arm draw the design(s) and then stencil it over the arm so the position covers the affected area.

The types of scars that are difficult to tattoo over tend to be deep burn scars or those where skin graphs have been done.

I have had a number of surface scars on my back – they were line scars that did not really show up because they were old but you can feel them in the skin. My back tattoo has covered these no problem.

Take Care
Matthew
