Traditianal piece done by Horikuz at Caloundra Ink, Sunshine Coast, QLD. This was completed about 3 months ago. Background was done freehand, koi and flowers were from stencil. Took about 18 hours.

Check my past posts if you want to see the progression.

Would be happy to hear any feedback or comments.

Looks good in the distant pics but the close ups the line work looks a little wonky.

Looks solid. Colour a little dull would be my only critic maybe due to the pastel shades of the flowers. Really like the traditional element. And that chest must itch!

thanks for the feedback.

I’m diggin your your oni sleeve goldengraeme. I’m considering getting my other side done with a more newschool japanese style aswell. Not sure if the two styles would go together though or clash. What do you guys think?

I think your tattoo looks pretty good overall. It’s not spectacular color wise but it is a solid tattoo. And I think the two styles would go fine together. Congrats on the tattoo.

Thanks guys, I know what you mean about the colour. To be honest it does look a little more dull or pastel like in the pics for some reason. They definetly look a little more bold and true to colour in person, same with the black, but it does have a sort of matte finish (for lack of a better adjective). You probably also noticed that there are no blending of colours, the same pigment was used to make the degradation in the colours, he just added some water to lighten them up. I think this also contributes to the “flat” look.

I’ve also gone to a respected tattooer in my area to ask about the colours and if he thought it needed to be reworked or touched up and he didn’t want to mess with it.

Personally I would say I’m satisfied with the tattoo, and it pretty much turned out the way i had hoped.

At first i thought maybe there was a few things I would change about it, but recently I realised I thiknk i just want another one. That’s what kind of made me think about doing the other side in a more new-school or western style look.

Does anybody know of any good Japanese style tattoo artists in Ontario or anywhere in Canada for that matter?

I’ve been looking at Horiryu – http://www.strictlytattoo.com/gallery/?album=2&gallery=1
But he is based in Vancouver.

Would really appreciate if someone could reccommend a good artist.

Cheers!

To get the colour re worked on the flowers alone would lift the piece but I like the layout and traditional aspect.
Thanks for the kind comments on my arm.
I would love a back piece tattoo based around the Hannya mask like Shige does but its a hell of an investment of cash and time.
I have got a B+G left arm and a color right which doesn’t bother me although I plan on adding colour if my artist will do it or advise it as he has said in the past it may look muddy, but we never really discussed what colour could work.
