Going to meet with Yokohama Horiken at State of Grace this coming week. Can’t wait to get this thing going.

Will post more as the concept’s developed and we know where we’re exactly going with it.

Thanks for the pointers here. I feel that I’ll be in some very good hands!

Wow congrats. Nice pick, everyone at that shop is sick. How much does he charge per hour, if you dont mind me asking. Also how long were you on his wait list for. Congratulations again I look forward to seeing this one pan out. Good luck.

Met with Horiken and he’s a very warm person. We decided to do a half-sleeve first, in color and then go from there. I pretty much gave him complete artistic freedom since I love his work I’ve seen online and in books.

We should be starting the outline in the next two weeks. I’m stoked!

I wanted to make the convention but won’t be able to. Have an annual family trip lined up for that whole weekend. Take some pictures and post them. I bet it’s going to be sick.

And no, not from the bay. Live in the Sac area and am in the process of moving all my stuff down south to San Diego.

Very cool, Rockysmom. We might have to start a 916 Chapter!

So I went in last night to check the drawing out and it looks just as I’d want it to. Going in on the 23rd for a five hour outline session. Cannot wait to get this thing started. They’ve just been ridiculously cool and I’m digging that they decided to bump the schedule up for me since I’ll be heading back out to work at the end of the month.

I’ll post pictures of the outline on or around the 23rd.

I apologize for the iPhone quality pictures but I don’t have anyone around to take some good snapshots of the outline I got done yesterday. It took us right at five hours, with two five minute breaks in between for water and smokes.

Being my first tattoo, I am ridiculously stoked about how the session went. I expected to be in significantly more discomfort throughout the process. All day today and last night I keep glancing at my arm thinking that I should have done this a long time ago. With the proper funds, a good idea that my career path doesn’t care about half sleeves and the realization that life is way too short, I’m going to get this one done and then look at my next step.

For now…here is the outline (Color will follow either shortly this week or when I get back from my next trip in November):

It’s not neo-Japanese, so it might not wow a crowd like something Shige does, but the detail Horiken is putting into this and the quality of his work that I’ve seen on others and online leads me to believe that I am going to have a beautiful piece of traditional art on my body for the rest of my life – and that rocks.

Looking really good so far. And I know exactly what you mean about wishing you had done this earlier. I’m in the process of getting a very similar first tattoo myself and can’t stop looking at my arm. Just wait until you get the color. 😀

I know everyone is different, but so far my color work was significantly less painful than the outline.

Awesome work! I met Horiken in July at State of Grace when I was there for my session with Horitomo. Nice guy and a great artist.

Look like a great tattoo but not so sure on the scales on the koi fish.. They are suppose to be rounded at the ends but it just looks like a diamond shape to me.. Was it suppose to look like that? Is that his kind of artistic vision of a Koi?
