Was talking to a friend today and he pointed me in the direction of this guy. I’ve checked out his cover up work and I’m pretty impressed, so much so that I’m wondering if I should go there for my next cover up? it’s about the same travel time as the current artist I’m using for my cover up, so there isn’t much in it.

Here is some work from his site… Don’t know what to do now?

There is so much black in this before cover, yet it’s ended up really well

That is some damn fine ink that artist is doing.
If you want a serious cover-up looking at that portfolio I would def use him.

Thanks for the feedback Sherav, just what I was thinking TBH….

Feel guilty for drifting away from my current artist, as I have been very happy with what he’s done, I feel sick inside at the thought of going somewhere else, but just feel this guy has the edge ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Monday I’m going over to his studio see if I can talk to him and see how it feels, just wanted some input here, even though the work kinda speaks for itself.

Hi Comet

The way I see it is that many artists specialise in certain areas and that one artist may excel in one field but not in another.

If you have found an artist that is more suited to a cover up piece then use them. You have to flow with what is right for you.

The main thing is to treat each and every artist with courtesy and respect (ie not ripping off their design/drawing for another artist to do, or promising a commission, booking the time and backing out to a rival).

Follow those simple rules and no guilt involved.

Happy inking.

Yeah I just feel uneasy about going someplace else, I feel comfortable with the other guy!

Ive not booked any further sessions as we were waiting till the dragon koi was complete, so it’s not like im backing out of anything or letting him down, but all the same i do feel uneasy about it.

Had I seen this guy sooner I wouldn’t have hesitated to go with him ๐Ÿ˜Ž

there is no problem with finding another artist, it is only dis respectful if you are part ay through a piece and then ask another artist to complete it… once the outline is done then it should be the same artist finishes it…. unless of course they pop their clogs or you have a fall out with them lol..

the workmanship of living colours work is outstanding ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well I went over to the Living Colour studio yesterday morning, it was pretty busy which is always a good sign and looking at the work I don’t suppose it’s that surprising. they were very friendly and helpful.

I told them I wanted to book some sessions for some cover up work, then bared my arms and they didn’t seem to think it would be a problem, they commented on my dragon koi and said that the artist used the wrong colours and that the red was not suitable, they asked if it was my choice and I said No it was the artist who choose the colours, I told them I didn’t really have any say in it. I could see that they were not overly impressed which left me a bit deflated if I’m honest.

Anyway…. as you know I wanted Roy to do the work but I wasn’t given a choice, perhaps this is my fault as I just presumed I would be asked which artist I wanted. I was pretty much told that their female artist Ondine would be doing the work and appointments were made.

I liked Ondine from what I saw of her she seems quite easy going, but when I checked out her portfolio when I got back home, I don’t feel it’s quite as good as Roy’s work, and the other female artist Tori.

Check out their portfolios: http://www.livingcolourtattoostudio.com/

She has won awards this year at the body art convention as you can see here: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewAlbums&friendID=425681123

I quite like the idea of a female artist working on me, she is a curvy lady and I love curves believe me! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have 2 sessions booked with her on the 17th Nov and 8th Dec but I’m not sure I’m doing the right thing, should I put my confidence in her and just go with the flow? or should I try and get the appointments changed to go with Roy or Tori either of which I would be more than happy doing the work?

I wanted to say something while I was in the studio, but it was busy, the staff were busy, and it felt rather insulting to say I wanted Roy or Tori to do the work and not Ondine. I’m not very good at dealing with things like this to be honest, I am quite shy and not that outspoken so not quite sure what to do TBH?

What would you guys do if you were me? Trust Ondine, or see if I can change artists? She did seem quite confident

Hi

First of all the issue with your dragon koi is one of personal perception. You will never get 2 artists to agree entirely on colour.

Last night a friend walked in (he is a graphic artist) and said lets have a look and he was like yep good piece but damn i would have used more blue…

I got an email from another friend who loves art and he was like damn Matt not enough green…

I just smile and nod and think I am happy with it and so should you. If you are not happy they can always shade in another deeper red.

I checked out all the artists and they are all good but with different styles. If I had to choose for myself (strict personal taste here) I would choose Roy.

Why?

Not because the other artists are shit but because it is going on my skin for life and that is the artist I have most preference for.

I wouldn’t go into an art gallery and buy one painting by another artist (than the one intended) because the receptionist told me so.

I had a similar experience – the studio I am using has 2 artists and an apprentice. I was told if the apprentice did any work it would be cheaper (but they said a full backpiece is between the 2 main artists). At first they said well Dave (other artist deals with old school mostly) will do it.

I said well it is Japanese and I want it funky so can Phil do it? She was like can you wait 6 mths? I was like sure.

Everything was sweet and nobody was offended.

Be polite but be assertive – if you feel that the other artist’s style is right for you then tell them and see what they can do.

Don’t leave it until the last min though give them a lot of notice.

Matthew

Cheers Sherav…

So should I just phone them and ask if i can switch artists? I guess somehow I will have to pluck up the courage, as you have just confirmed what I was already thinking ๐Ÿ˜Ž
