hey hows it goin
this is my first post on tthis forum

im lookin to do a traditional koi lower leg sleeve with water, lotuses the dragons gate
the whole nine yards
i was thinkin of having more than one koi in this piece but only one swimming upstream towards the gate
some of this goes along wit traditional symbolism except for the multiple koi

any thoughts and ideas woukld be a great help

Welcome. As for thoughts, you have thought it out, so you are well on the way. There are lots of preferences on this forum, however your ideas in the hands of a good tattooist will look great.

I do have a second question tho it involves the color of the koi itself
I’m thinking do the red/orange for it’s sybolosm of being the strongest of the koi
If I did go with multiple fish I would be influenced to go wit blue and white cause I am a son in my family and I would represent my family
I am thinking that it would be way to much blue with the water background

Generally water in Japanese tattooing is in Black and Grey shade rarely in blue as it is tradition to have main objects in bright bold colours and the background black and grey as it makes for a better tattoo.
