what do you guys call your tattoo equipment?

“tattoo Gun” or Tattoo machine”?

this has been an on going debate for sometime… lets settle this once and for all.

I prefer the term “tattoo gun” but some artist are anal about this term and strictly call it a “tattoo machine”

It’s a tattoo machine. It was patented as a tattoo machine. Tattoo artists call it a tattoo machine. It doesn’t shoot anything. It isn’t designed to kill.

Call it what you want, but you’re wrong if you call it anything other than a tattoo machine.

Technically you could argue that it is a GUN!

defention: Gun

A weapon consisting of a metal tube from which a projectile is fired at high velocity into a relatively flat trajectory.

yes, its not actually a weapon.. but it does shoot a repeated projectile at high velocity into a flat service.
guns do not necessarily have to kill anything either.

take a look at the stun GUN.

stun-guns.jpg

or the tranquilizer GUN

Tranquilizer_Set-Fired-frm-22-blank.jpg

its purpose is to do the opposite of kill.

now lets look at non traditional GUNS that are not used as weapons at all!

The spray paint gun is not designed to kill or a weapon. but evidently it is still considered a GUN!

now it doesn’t matter who patented the tattoo ‘machine’. the investor could have called it a GUN for all you know. but some close minded person or some one who didn’t want to create controversy reinstated it as ‘machine’.

but i disgress, I am NOT wrong for calling it a “TATTOO GUN”. It is a contraption with a switch that shoots a projectile repeatedly…

I’m very new to tattoos but my understanding was that “gun” was a scratcher term or for those who didn’t know.

I’ve never heard any of the artists in my shop call it a gun, just a machine.

It’s a tattoo machine, not a gun. Just like my .357 magnum is a gun and not a machine. People who use the term gun to describe a tattoo machine are typically either home scratchers or ignorant wannabe tattoo enthusiasts who don’t know any better and think they sound cool. I wonder which one the OP is?

whats with these have baked response?!!?

I am standing TALL with my statement that it is a TATTOO GUN…
some one please… come up with some thing more intelligent to make me think otherwise or atleast
an intelligent debate.

You are obvouisly close minded because a GUN is a MACHINE!!!
did you think about that one?

Defention: Machine

“An apparatus using or applying mechanical power to perform a particular task.”

hhmmmm lets just think about that… doesn’t that apply to guns aswell?

here Ill make this nice and easy for you!

negev_2.jpg

what is that you say?…

A ‘machine gun’!

to you guys that must be the most bizarre oxymoran in the entire universe.

but its not, it makes perfect sense.

your .357 magnum IS a machine and it IS a gun…

think about that…

open your mind abit!

But i doubt you gun toting savages will be able to grasp this simple concept im portraying.

You can call it a gun if you like, it’s your choice.
The same as I can call my dog a squirrel…

Percy Waters patented it as a tattoo MACHINE. I guess he was wrong though.

And by your logic we should be calling a sewing machine a sewing gun. They work on the same principle as a tattoo machine.

Easy tiger, I was agreeing with you 😉

There’s no law to stop him from calling it a gun, same as there’s nothing stopping me calling my dog a squirrel. It’s not true though…
