so, everyone here, i may be unemployed until i ship out… im scraping for change as it is, but now i am loosing my job that is currently paying my bills.

i currently work for a local music store, selling guitars and whatnot… but the owner had a stroke and went into a coma…. so now the store is closing up permanently. the bank account that the store had got exhausted, and without the boss we couldnt re order anything. so, its tanking. we will be closing up shop within 3 weeks.

i ship out for the navy in 6 months, and dont get paid untill i ship out… but i need to survive untill then, and i cant file for unemployment due to the fact that i am contracted with the US Navy… technically “employed” even though i dont get payed until i ship out

so, if anyone is here from the northern califorina region, and knows of any available jobs between sacramento and vallejo, i would really appreciate a heads up. i am really in a pickle right now. i gotta get my bills paid, or i lose everything.

i’ve been putting my resume in to literally every place locally, but no one wants to hire me because i am leaving in 6 months. i guess they see it as a loss on their part, even though i emphasize that i am a very hard worker, and will not let them down.

It may sound silly, but try pizza delivery.
If you have a car and insurance, you are in business. I did that part time when I was in school. I made like $100-200 some nights in tips, and the hourly paid for gas and tires etc. They wont even care that you will be gone in six months and its pretty easy.

Sorry to hear that, hope something comes up to help get you through. And once you ship out fair winds and following seas.

First let me say that I am from Germany but based on our sad history I always appreciate the commitment of the American troops so thank you for your service!

I have seen pizza delivered on motorcylces, just call and ask them about it. Another thing I could think of is a call center maybe, I know its not a dream job but some friends of mine have done it while at university, most of them not for very long. Also, you could ask restaurants / hotels if they need any valets (spelling?), like pizza delivery that should make for some nice tips and doesnt require much training so the employer may not consider it a loss. Also dont give up when they tell you they dont need anyone, just tell them thanks and leave a card or at least your number, in case one of their employees should get sick / quit / …, you never know. Might get lucky like that! Also ask them if they know of anyone that might need a helping hand, Im sure that if you explain your situation most Americans will be sympathetic and try to help you out?

All the best and good luck,
J

I wouldn’t mention you are leaving in 6 months. Have you tried Lowe’s or Home Depot. Being it’s spring I would focus on places that might be hiring due to the warmer weather.
