Personally for touch up tips and tips in general really I prefer to give a gift rather than just a money percentage. Possibly get him some tattoo books, old records, antiques or something else that you know they may be into. I have found that they really get siked by this more than straight out money.

I didn’t mention laser because I think you should be pretty fine to straight out cover it. I can definitely see a full backpiece tiger or phoenix but having said that you could do just the right side of your back with one of these animals. A full back piece is an extremely long and full on committment.

Any decent tattoo artist would be able to cover that. The only thing is you will have to go big. I would suggest a full backpiece of a tiger or phoenix like you mentioned.

I am speaking from a whole different country (Australia), but I think some of these artists in NYC charge this price because they don’t expect to be tipped. Still in almost every case tip them in some form. Chen has it correct that personal gifts are the way to go not just straight out cash.

Forgot to post this Wardy. It’s a screenshot I took from the Sailor Jerry documentary. This was done in the early 40’s, before criminal association.

All the tattoos are by Sailor Jerry himself.
