If you’re looking for some truly creative and unique tattoo artists Leeds is the place to go. With a number of different reasons to visit Leeds, including the famous Leeds Festival which takes place in August every year alongside being known for the amazing buildings that Leeds has to offer. The city is also the third largest in the UK and is one of the fastest growing cities too. Previously we’ve written about some fantastic tattoo artists based in Stoke On Trent and decided Leeds would also be a great place to talk about the amazing tattoo talent. So here are 5 awesome tattoo artists you need to check out (once lockdown is over!)

Simon Hook- Doctor Inkwell

Simon Hook is based in Leeds and creates stunning tattoos in the form of cartoons and comics. His work stands out for being bold, colourful and truly one of a kind. Whether you’re looking to get your favourite video game character or a film star Simon will tattoo something beyond your wildest dreams.

Collette Owen – Artist at Snake & Tiger Tattoo 

Collette is an artist who is capable of creating tattoos in a variety of styles. She works for Snake & Tiger tattoo studio, home to several artists and a studio that happy welcomes walk-ins. Her style ranges from amazing western traditional styles to small and elegant feminine designs. Her tattoo work definitely reflects this style. Many of the images shared by Collette are smaller elements with very fine black and white lines, which are sharp and crisp. 

You can tell that she cares for her work, delivers the best she can, and produces tattoo work that will last. As mentioned, Collette also works on traditionally styled tattoos and her work is bright, bold, and colourful. It’s the anthesis of what you would expect from traditional tattoo art. Viktoria Kolshik- Artistic Crew

The owner of Artistic Crew tattoo studio is Viktoria Kolshik, who is an epic tattoo artist. Viktoria has a unique and bold style to her work. If you’re into dramatic realism this is the artist to look out for. Her work typically features portraits of animals and humans, the way she uses shading and white ink makes for insanely good photorealistic tattoos.

Some of her most striking work is of greek mythology alongside amazing landscape paintings. Most of her work has a dark style to it. Her work in the past been auctioned off to help raise awareness and raise funds for cancer charities. If you are looking for dark, gothic, photorealistic, and regal styled art check out Viktoria. 

David Barry- Ultimate Skin Tattoo Studio

David Barry of Ultimate Skin Tattoo Studio in Leeds has an interesting and unique take on his work. His work features a unique approach to traditional Japanese tattoos. David creates images of creatures and monsters and transforms them into a traditional Japanese art style.

One of his most notable works has been the peach, typically known in pop culture as an emoji, David has made this into a Japanese style tattoo. He has taken a character from the famous 2001 Space Odsessy movie and transformed it into a stunning traditional Japanese style tattoo and a character from A Clockwork Orange.

Each of these two tattoos has been styled like an Omamori which is a small amulet that is said to provide protection. If you are interested in seeing traditional Japanese tattoos, David’s work is very true to the original artwork and culture. 

Ruth Rollin- Red Tattoo

Ruth Rollin of Red Tattoo in Leeds is an artist who creates fantastic lifelike pieces in black ink. She typically creates work based on wildlife, with most of her striking art being of animals. 

The linework that Ruth uses is usually delicate, but she creates lots of detail in small areas and adds incredible shading to add a realistic appearance to her work. Most recently Ruth did a piece which features a flower and a spider web, in the spiderweb, she combines thin lines as well as dotted lines to give the impression that the spider web is a different texture to the flower.
