Hi

The first that springs to mind for realism animal portraits or portraits is Shotsie Gorman -awesome artist not sure where he is based at the moment but well worth checking out.

I rang up a friend in NYC and she swears by this artist at Superstition Tattoos in Brooklyn.

I checked him out on net and seems a good artist May not be exactly what you are looking for but worth checking out in general.

The other studio I checked out was Skin Circus tattoos north NYC http://www.skincircustats.com/contact_us

Hope these help.

Take Care

There was a shotsie gorman thread not too long ago. I think the thread starter had stumbled across him in california. I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure thats were he got his work done.

Thanks for that – really like his work.

It has been a few years since I was last in NYC and I am planning another trip to california (might as well blow my redundancy money on something fun when it comes through :p).

I am not sure about animal-specific artists, but for B&G portraits Shane O’Neill in DE (not far from Philly), Phil Young @ Hope Gallery in CT (not from from northern NJ or NYC) and Chris Adamek in NJ (does more painterly style work) come to mind. Shane has about a 7-month wait atm, Phil about a month, Adamek not sure, couple months maybe.

I like Deano Cook’s stuff and have even contacted him before but his portfolio is 99% sea-related so don’t know about going to him for animals. Tom Renshaw is an excellent choice but probably a very, very long wait.
