I just have a question… you all were just a big help with my tattoos I was hoping you could help with this….

I’m just wondering how long I should wait before pus in a nipple piercing should worry me?

I got a bar put in. 4 weeks later he pulled it out, put a hanging piece on it and said to keep an eye on the pus. At week 5 I made him take the hanging piece off because it HURT. This is week 6 and its slightly worse though not swollen or anything though it is a little sore. I only have the one done.

When I was little I could only wear gold or silver earrings… We’re wondering if thats the issue with this one. He also said it could just be slow healing.

I’m going to go see him again tomorrow but I’m just wondering if I’m worrying over nothing or if this might really be an issue.

It never hurts to see a doctor. I remember an old thread that was recently revived on this same issue. I remember someone calling it body cheese. No lie. I don’t remember anyone saying it was painful though. If it was my nipple I would get it checked out. Good luck.

It could be helpful to post a pic, so we can see what we’re talking about.
Seems to me that if there is pus coming out, that is a bad thing. Just my opinion.

I read through the thread where they called it body cheese. I’m pretty sure thats not it…. I still need to go see the piercer. I’d prefer not to see a doctor unless it gets bad since I have no insurance and that would be a large bill. Its not bad or anything, just annoying.

And I can post a pic but just wondering if you were being serious?

I had some what the same issue when I had both of mine done for at least six months after. Sore, tender to the touch, and puss. Lots of puss. I kept the captive bead rings in and about twice a day I would use a q-tip and put bactracin on the rings and turn them back and forth so it would work it’s way into the “wound”. The bactracin would help stave off any infection without excellerating any healing. You may want to give that a try and see if it helps any along with the typical daily cleaning. If it doesn’t, defanitly see a doctor. Money is just money, you can make more later. A nipple won’t grow back. Or worse it could draw a staff infection, and those don’t all ways end well.

Of course, I’m serious.
If you can’t afford a doctor, maybe there is one of those clinics in your area. You could also try WebMD and see if you can find anything there.

Hi

I am not a Dr but yes your body is fighting an infection where bacteria or dirt has got into the wound where your nipple is.

The difference between body cheese and an infection is easy to tell by the pus that is coming out of it. If it is leaking any clear of milky fluid that smells or stings as it comes out you have an ongoing infection.

If it is this or comes out congealed and yellow then you need to remove all jewellery and soak the infected area with an anti-bacterial solution. If you cannot afford that you need salt water and I mean a lot of salt and it will sting.

The fact that you are still in pain 4 weeks later means that your body is rejecting the piercing and it could be that the type of metal is effecting the piercing as well – basically you need surgical steel.

If you continue you will run a serious risk of blood poisoning or staph (which is a milder form) but both can be fatal if left untreated.

My advice is take it out leave it and get some antibiotics as well as regular bathing.

Photos are not really needed ( I have been sent a lot in the past and know the signs now and damn I am amazed at what ppl are prepared to get pierced a nipple is pretty tame) but signs of infection are

Redness
Swelling or tenderness around the breast aureal or nipple
Oozing of the wound
Bruising or discolouration or threading (thin lines of red or blue this is damn serious if you see these).
Constant: Headaches, nausea, dizziness, or fever.

Its nothing that bad… a small amount of pus is all. I’ve had way worse infections other places. And I have surgical steel in. My ears used to get pusy with steel also. I had to get silver or gold. I think I should just go get new metal. And its not painful, just a little sore. And I have been soaking and spraying with salt water. And I was washing it with dial, but the piercer said thats too harsh.

Its just that little bump on the right side.

Hi Simply

Yes seen stacks of that type of problem and it is a mild swelling caused by an infection of the piercing often common and also can get them with nose, lip, eyebrow, and genital piercings.

The above post was checking for a sebaceous gland infection or cyst which are really icky and can be dangerous if left untreated.

As it is it don’t look like that nor does it look like a keloid – but that area of the body is very sensitive and can be probe to infection on a wound.

I would recommend clean it with salt water 2-3 times a day and a mild anti-bacterial wash as well. You also need to make sure that the bar is cleaned fully of any pus etc as otherwise you are putting an infected object back into the wound.

It should go down soon but if it stays inflamed or gets worse you really need some antibiotics.

I went back to the piercer and he said it was a metal allergy. We switched it out for plastic and sprayed it with the saltwater stuff a couple of times yesterday and the swelling is down and the pain is gone already. I should have just insisted on this a long time ago. I’m going to keep an eye on it though and make sure it keeps healing.

From the pic, it doesn’t look to be infected and from your post it seems to be healing better with the plastic.
