Hey guys & girls, my name’s Dan from tasmania, Australia. Only got the one tatt atm, it’s a piece from the nightmare before Christmas, one of my favorite movies. I have one quick question, I have always loved knuckle tattoos and want to kid my kids names done, I know it’s not the usual thing people get done like the whole love/hate thing, I just wanted some other people’s opinions on whether it would be an appropriate place or not? So please let me know what you think.

Sorry if this seems a bit rushed I’m currently typing this on my phone at work hoping the boss don’t see me lol.

Thankyou in advance,
Dan.

Welcome Dan. Sure I don’t see why not. As long as the knuckle tats aren’t an issue in your line of work, go for it.

If your boss doesn’t like you using your phone at work, how does he feel about you having knuckle tattoos?

I’ll tell you what I’ve heard from a lot of tattoo artists.

Tattoos on the hand and neck have to be earned. They are what you get when you run out of room elsewhere on the body.

Most tattoo artists won’t tattoo someone’s hands unless they’re at least fully sleeved. Without being heavily tattooed already you don’t know what it’s like to be instantly judged solely by your tattoos. Unless you plan on wearing gloves everywhere you can’t exactly hide your fingers.

I normally tell people to get the tattoo they want where they want but in this instance I’ll say hold off on it. There are tons of places on your body that you can have your kid’s names. You’ve only got one tattoo now so you’ve got the room.

I’m a labourer so the tattoos I get doesn’t worry the bosses at all, as long as the works getting done they don’t care at all.

David – I can see why they would say that as it does make sense, i don’t know what tattooists are like where you live but here, as long as you have the money you can get it wherever you like.

The way I see it, and you can call me silly if you like but I don’t see the point of getting a tatt if your only going to cover it up anyway but that’s just my opinion =)

I totally understand you. I’m a tattoo artist. I love it when people show off my/their tattoos. I have seen a few people regret their visible tattoos not long after getting them for many different reasons. Just trying to keep you informed.

Those types of “artists” are everywhere, but their desperation is reflected in the quality of their work.

I can see how that sounded lol, don’t worry there is no way i would go to a tattoist if i didnt like his work, i just meant that from the tattooist ive been to have never said anything like that.

I just wanted to know if it was a bad place to get kid’s names, with all the worrys about employment aside as i really do love knuckle tattoo’s.

Dan.

I know I live overseas from you (Victoria), but I have seen tattooists refuse to tattoo people that have been a bit drunk – even though they booked in advance, they have refused pornographic tattoos in visible places and they won’t tattoo faces, hands and necks unless there is already a lot of ink, they wont even tattoo some poorly home drawn designs (they offer to work with the customer to fix up the design). Certainly there are some tattooists with very low standards, but I know of at least 3 studios that are really fussy of what gets tattooed where as they have a reputation and they intend to only enhance their reputation.
That said I’m envious of you as I would love hand and knuckle (well more over my fingers), but alas it will never happen, due to employment constraints.

Get what you want on your knuckles man, who cares what anybody think’s if it’s Ok about your kid’s names on there it will be a different way for a name tattoo and obviously you like it or you wouldn’t of thought about it 🙂

i would just be aware that all people (not just your employers) will automatically assume you’re a thug, and you can not care what people think all you like but it starts to get wearing when people avoid you or look at you with dusgust every day for the rest of your life. i would just consider the implications, i personally would never go for hands neck or face, it says something about you (im not saying its right but it does) and i dont want that impression of me going out. i think these kind of tattoos are better suited to serious collectors and artists.

Just my opinion though hun, do whatever you like x
