So on Good Friday I sat for the start of my sleeve – my artist wanted to do just the line work in the first session to give it time to heal.
Booked in for the next session already for colour and shading.
The plan is to blend three styles for the sleeve:
Robotic / Steampunk Koi fish on the outer bicep with a smokey / oily water background incorporating some of the traditional elements such as the flowers and bright colours.
Inner bicep is still to be decided – I am trying to think of something to tie it all together and not just use background / fill
Forearm will be a bio-organic.
The inner bicep will have a small section that includes my first tattoo which is currently on my wrist and will be covered by bio-organic.
So here’s how it looks so far:
Now before anyone comments that there is a ‘mistake’ on the clock face – it’s by design to add a touch of quirkiness to the piece, the time is when I was born.
a unique touch to the classic koi, looks good. the line work is a tad bit inconsistent but i think in the end the piece will look great. keep us posted.
Thats a great idea off of the usual koi idea, can’t wait for the final piece
I really like this concept; look coward to seeing how it progresses.
Hes not a coward! lol
Looks good so far!
Was supposed to say ‘forward’, but the predictive text on my phone took over!
Cheers all 🙂 I’ll post more pics when I get the next session done in two weeks.
It will probably be 1 – 2 sessions a month till the sleeve is done.
Then I can work on the other side and my ribs 😉
And no problems on the coward vs forward – I figured it was some sort of autocorrect magic.
cool, I cant recall seeing anything quite like it, want to see it done
Cheers all – getting some more work done tomorrow so will add new photos when its done.
Only another 2.5 hour session unfortunately but that will still get a heap done.
thats enough, one good thing about small sessions is they are easier to heal
That’s very true I guess – I have just always liked a longer session, I think it’s because I’m impatient and want the finished artwork quicker 😉
Steampunk Koi.. not that’s not something you see every day! Very much looking forward to seeing the finished piece.
Just finished 2 hours of shading and highlights, next session will be colour then working on the inner bicep to transform the piece to a half sleeve.
It’s still fairly fresh and not cleaned 100% in this pic so will get a couple more later on:
Looks mighty fine!
