I agree with Infamous, his tats are Polynesian. A good reference for this style is: http://www.tahititatou.com/. Here you can find some meanings of things, because most of the design has meaning. These tats usually tell a story of ones life and you want to be careful when chosing a design that fits you. I always liked how the artists can design a polynesian tatou that takes the form of an animal (ray, shark, turtle, lizard) and incorporates other symbols within the body. I would reccommend you find an artist with experience and/or knowledge of this style.
