Hi everyone. I’m in need of your advice. Basically, i want a tattoo design and have been told it can’t be done unless it’s blown up on a much (much!) larger scale. Too big for how i want it. This will be my first tattoo and I really want the design. I asked if they could edit it to make it work but they weren’t interested.

So i want to know what i can do to make this design possible. The branches seemed to be the main concern. I was planning on having the tattoo on my upper left chest with the leaves blowing on to my shoulder.

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

That’s the size i want it. (it’s taken off a tshirt)

    Thanks Chris.

it could be done just like the image, but it would look shite in a couple of years down the line.
the design is not a great one to work with or from, the results would look rather amature, hense why nobody will take the request on.

    Hi

Sorry but at that size the ink will blur into an unsightly blob after a few years of wearing it. 😮

The problem you have is that the lines of the drawing are far to close together and as the ink fades the pigment breaks down in the scar tissue of the skin that holds it in place.

This creates a spreading effect and with the ink being so close together in a mass will just ruin the tattoo.

My advice is slim the design down – take the concept and maybe have a thinner trunk and say 3-4 branches from which less leaves are blowing from it.

Or why not just have the leaves blowing across your chest to shoulder and some wind bars? I think that would be a very poignant tattoo.

The only alternative is to go for a design which way larger than that.

    Thanks for your help.

I think i will have to get it drawn out with less branches and less leaves then. Do the leaves need a black outline? Or wouldn’t that matter? Would it be ok to have single leaves on the tree with more space around them? Or would that still create at ‘blob effect’ after a couple of years?

Sorry for all the questions 🙂

    Cheers, Chris.
