I’m gearing up to get a tattoo for my 40th birthday – I got a dharma wheel for my 30th, and want to make it a tradition.

I’ve been thinking about the D&D art I loved as a kid and still do – dungeon cross-section maps like this one, or the Trampier lizardman illustration.

But I also think that it’d be much cooler to work with an artist to do something inspired by these images than to just try to reproduce them. One of the best things about getting my last tattoo was forming a personal connection with the artist & coming out with a different tattoo than I’d planned (she argued for solid black ink because it holds up better with age, which I now appreciate). Now that I have more time and resources than I did on the spur of the moment at 30, it would be sheer awesome to sit down and play D&D with an artist to form the shared inspiration for a tattoo!

What are good ways to find an artist – especially in the NYC area who has a passion for 20-sided dice in their past or present?

What are other designs anywhere that have been inspired by D&D?

What are ideas for what I should get, and where?

Check out Paul Booth. He is one of the baddest men on the planet. He is kinda dark but but he does amazing work. He would hit your idea out of the park. Let me know what you think and great idea.
