    How do you hear new Heavy metal Bands? The radio sucks everyone knows that. But how do the majority of heavy metal fans hear new bands? Internet, Itunes, Internet radio, Sattilte Radio, Friends? Also lets say you discover a new heavey metal band and you go to there website would you pay $5 to download a 10-14 song album, that you could download direct from the site? Would you spend $8 via pay pal to buy an actual CD if you wanted the real thing? Thanks!

    P.S. Just a FAN/ Musician trying to do some reasearch!

    http://www.metal-archives.com/ is possibly the best website ever.
    http://pandora.com/ is another amazing website. You pick a band and pandora finds similar bands. Sometimes the given bands are terrible, but I have found many good ones.

    Also, try looking at side projects of band members from bands that you like. And buying the actual cd is always better than downloading.

    Try online radio stations that don’t have to play what’s “popular.” Check out the link below… One of the DJs is friends w/ my sister, and he is a total metal head… You also might want to go to Myspace and check out local bands. Local bands need all the support they can get.

    And i would say, if you have the ability to burn CDs, then just download it and burn a hard copy.

    Here is what I do.

    Every once in a while, I look at the top 100 metal bands on MySpace. To do this, you;
    1) Go to MySpace Music
    2) Got to top artists
    3) Select the Metal genre
    4) the bands are ranked by the number of plays.
    Then, if I hear a band I like I will go and buy their songs on iTunes.

    As for the radio, try listening to Harddrive. It is a national syndicated rock program, and through I learned about Evans Blue and HELLYEAH.

    As for paying extra money for a real CD, I only do that if I really like an album. Usually albums have a few songs I don’t like, so I just buy the single tracks on iTunes.

    Click radio and create your station, type in any band you listen to and random bands that are the same genre will play following that band. I found lots of awesome metal bands I’ve never heard of on that site. It’s pretty nice… you should check it out.

    I don’t listen to new heavy metal, but I discovered a whole lot of heavy metal bands on various forums, Yahoo! Answers, and just by looking up heavy metal. If I did like the bands though, I’d just directly download unless it’s way more expensive.
