I just doodle in downtime, working on a graphic design major in school right now. Only really stuck to black and white stuff when it comes to pencil/pen and paper. But I’m looking to step it up a little bit and add some color, so knowing there’s a few artist on this site, was just wondering what some good suggestions are.

What brands for colored pencils and markers do you suggest to look at? Prefer to keep it kinda cheap seeing as I’m a broke college student for the time being but also looking for good supplies, so willing to spend a little money.

Thanks in advance.

I would say the my absolute favorite combination for art is micron pens for outlining and watercolors for coloring and black ink for shading.

I use Nicholson’s Peerless liquid watercolors (around $50 for the whole set)
A few random colors of Liquitex liquid acrylics (weird colors for about $4 a bottle)
Higgins India Ink for shading ($3 a bottle)
Any brand pigment liners in all the various sizes ( about $20 for a decent set)

Make sure you use high quality paper or you won’t get the best results. I use Arches watercolor paper.

I have a few paintings and drawings in the flash/design section of the forum that were used with this combination.
