I’m never one to get too sucked into VICE articles, I find them pretentious and not well connected with reality however sometimes you find a glint of gold in the rough and that’s exactly what this next story is. VICE interviewed Chris Trevino who’s career as a tattoo artist brought him all the way to Japan however upon returning home he combined the traditional Japanese technique with the bright, bold colours and graphics of Texas traditional tattoos to create his own unique style. A really interesting story, check it out.

I found a pretty humorous story in The Times this week. It seems that a collection of photographs posted on Instagram suggest that there is in fact a yearning among tattoo enthusiasts for permanent inscriptions of designs used on Pyrex cooking dishes. The designs, which have changed only subtly since the 1950’s, have arguably lasted so long that they have attained a classic status. Check out the full story here!

“People have been showing off their skin decorations on Instagram, alongside the original Pyrex cookware” – The Times

Fascinating article from The Guardian this week based on the rise of literary tattoos. The Melbourne writers’ festival, which has already sparked controversy over the direction of this year’s unconventional programme, offers a pop-up tattoo studio to inscribe literary memorials into the skin of ardent fans. Being an avid reader myself, It’s pretty tempting! Read the full article here!

“You see old sailor tattoos and they’ve always got writing on them … That marriage of images and words is a real old tradition for a reason. The image itself isn’t quite enough.” –  Les Rice, Tattoo Artist.

A few weeks ago I reported on the awful story of a Spanish woman who was booted from the army over a small tattoo on her ankle… well sadly it looks like Spain’s draconian policy on Tattoos seems to be spreading. To the UK… BBC news is reporting that Yorkshire Police have introduced d a new policy which states that face, neck or hand tattoos and extreme and vivid hair colours are not permitted. “The policy is designed to ensure that all of our staff adhere to what might reasonably be expected of a professional, modern and disciplined service.” – Chief Constable Stephen Watson, South Yorkshire Police

After reporting on tattoo news and stories from around the world for quite some time now it’s rare that I find a story that surprises me these days however our next and final story did just that. www.digitaltrends.com is reporting that a temporary tattoo device  that provides you with at a glance information concerning whether or not you’ve soaked up enough sun for the day is now available. The device called LoicInk UV Tattoo… And yes it also factors in sun cream! Read the full story here!

“Today, wearables tend to be bulky, expensive, with a steep learning curve, and on top of that require other devices to be operated,” creator Carlos Olguin
