    Hello – New Here
Got an outline colored in at the Chicago Tattoo Convention by a very reputable and respected artist. I thought the shading was dark on the faces was dark while he was doing it, and when I got home I got a bit nervous. I called him, and he calmly assured me it was due to:

    1. Lots of blood under the skin, changing the pigment of the shading
    2. The fact it’s new and will lighten dramatically when healed
    3. The actual shading looks a bit harsh like carving now, but when it heals it will be more smooth and natural

I am sure he is right, but I wanted a third parties opinion (enter you guys). Thoughts? I’ve included pics.

I will add that I got the tattoo finished Saturday 3/18/17 around 4PM CST, and the pictures are from today.

Well, I can’t offer much advice, just got my first tattoo yesterday after all… But there are knowledgeable people on this forum, and they will answer you in, it just takes time. I will say, my tattoo was very red when I got it, but, less than 24 hours later it was looking better, so with hope you’ll see the same kind of lightening and everything else that I’m starting to see.

thats exactly correct. when you first get a tattoo done the blood and bruising will affect the look of it until it heals. if its heavy shading then it will do the same.

Looks great already. who was the artist?

Thanks very much guys! I am at day 13, and it seems to be lightening up/healing, but not as much as I anticipated. I will try to post an updated picture, later.

Looking at the pictures side by side, it’s already really lightened up. I got the tattoo done on 3/18/17 around 4PM CST, so I count 3/19 as my first real day which means it’s technically 17 days old, and it’s still peeling/healing, so by the time it’s at a month or two, I’m sure it’ll look even better. At this point, I’m actually happy where it is.
I do have some “onion skin” though on areas where the old skin has fallen off, and the new skin is there. Basically kinda wrinkly shiny skin.
