Hey guys, first of all im new to this forum so apologies if i posted in the wrong section.
I want to get this covered up, i’ve spoken to a few tattooists in the area and they suggested flowers?. At this point im open to any ideas so long as it would work well as a cover up, im leaning towards the flower idea but wanted to get some suggestions before i commit. I was thinking of something maybe with a hummingbird or butterflies? Size isn’t too much of an issue as i do want a back piece some time in the future so the two potentially could be linked. Thanks for reading and any help would be appreciated

Looks very doable but make sure you search out an artist that specializes in cover ups. Covering a cover up is much harder.

people usually use flowers as a cover up because of the business of all the lines involved, when doing cover ups thats what u try to do is break up the existing lines and use the design thats already there to make the new tattoo,or cover up,if that made any sort of sense to you.good luck, and always make sure ur artist/tattooist knows how to do a cover up,and give your future designs that much more thought so theres no need:eek: for a cover up to begin with.thanks for reading, and have a good day!:eek::eek::eek:

Hey guys! Thanks for the responses, just to verify the tattooist i used was a very well recommended artist in my area, we discussed what i wanted and after doing a few different sketches he advised using a stencil for the star then free handing what should have been the ”shaded” tail to make the shooting star. I was confident in him doing this as he seamed professional and to know exactly how i wanted it. Again ‘shaded’ not block colour! After being fobbed of that ”as it heals the colour will fade out and look like what i asked for” =/ It’s now 2 years down the line and the shop has closed (go figure!)
I’ve found an artist who specialises in cover up tattoos, spoken to him (who suggested the flower approach) and a few others to get different opinions.
Seams the way to go would be with the flowers, just one more question, would a lotus flower be suitable to cover it, or would it need to be something as the above post suggested with more lines?

Thanks again, and thanks for not cracking jokes on how awful a tattoo it is! I know, ive heard them all

We see so many posts from people with crappy tattoos done by a “highly recommended artist”. The problem is the people doing the recommending don’t know what they’re talking about and generally can’t tell a good artist from a bad one. If you can, please provide a link to the new artist you’re talking to and we can hopefully be more qualified to tell you if the artist is capable of covering this it or not. If they are, then leave it up to them as to what will work and what won’t. I’m not an artist so I can’t tell you which type of flower to choose but there’s enough to cover so you may want more than just one type. I would think a lotus would work though.

Hey, this is not the artist that originally did the tattoo, but the guy im talking with about the cover up. Hopefully you can view this page without being a ‘friend’ as its on facebook. There are two main artists at the shop, the owner who specialises in cover-ups and another guy, as far as im concerned the photos shown are a mix of both there work? Not sure why as they have separate portfolios on the counter.

Tattoo facebook page (fingers crossed)

Other facebook page for tattoo and piercing shop upstairs, some different pictures up

And if all else fails and you cant view the facebook pages, please find the main website here…

Thanks again for the info, think i’ll be popping back soon to talk to the guy 🙂

That guys portfolio looks really good but that’s just my opinion. I would feel confident in getting a cover up done by him.

One question.. if a backpiece is already in the cards for you, why dot just design that to incorporate something that will cover this?

It would be much easier to add something that fits to a backpiece, than adding a backpiece that fits to a small cover job.

I’d keep looking for an artist. Not very impressed by the guys work. What you have can be easily covered, but covering what you may get to cover the existing tattoo will be much harder.

Just wondering, but what doesn’t impress you about his work?
Not hating on your opinion, just wondering.

His work is very inconsistent, for every decent piece there is an equally bad piece. Not a good sign. He shows promise but I wouldn’t choose him to do work on me.

This guy’s work is not up to par. Besides of just not being a good artist I didn’t see any coverups in the pics (from Facebook)

In my opinion, get someone else.
Since that artist isn’t all bad, but she/he won’t be good enough to manage a good coverup.
