Melodic punk rock? You are going in to too much detail, there is punk and there is pop-punk or hardcore punk (which is made my kids who are just jumping on a bandwagon).
Have you seen any of the metal bands around today? The metalcore cut their hair short but in my opinion they are not even metal. Look at bands like CoB and Dragonforce.
