I think as long as you find a talented artist and give them the picture and a little leeway they shoul be able to retranslate that into a tattoo just fine. Just go large enough to get some good details.

Did your artist specify to use a non-scented lotion? Because scented lotions will sting when you put them on a tattoo. Get something nonscented that is not petrolium based like lubriderm’s nonscented lotion and that should get rid of the sting. I would guess the continued redness might just be from the irritation caused by a scented lotion.

Well you should find a better artist to clean up the lines and balance out the proportions of the wings a bit better. That alone will improve it quite a bit. You can all kinds of things around a koi if you want a asian themed sleeve. I don’t even think a cover up would be necissary unless you actually want to put something over it.

In addition to what Gym said the 5 day mark is probably a good time to go from the Bep and switch to a non scented lotion. I usually make that switch after the 3rd day myself.

It’s your body, but a design like that would only take up about half of your back at it’s largest. Better off saving your entire back for a back piece. I think that design would would look best as just a chest plate or somewhere else.
