    Hi all,

Ive been thinking of getting a tattoo for a really long time, and have decided to take the plunge. Through weight training ive got ALOT of streach marks on my body, therfore ive decided to have the text i want on the palm of my hand which goes all the way upto the end of my little finger (one line).

I would like this in a cursive script design lettering.

My question is, do the pros here think its possable to do this on the hand palm, and how long will the tattoo last (ive heard palm tattoos dont heal as well and the skin “renews” alot faster???)

Will a cursive font work on the hand palm and finger?

    Thanks

    Hi

The tattooing of the palm with something that size is basically going to be an endless battle of re-inking practically every year to 2 years to keep it in the skin.

You also run the risk of a major blow out due to the softness of the skin.

Whilst is it is possible it will not be as anywhere near as good as you picture in your mind – sadly ink just does not take that well in the palms.

The issue of stretchmarks – many (healed) stretchmarks cans be tattooed over quite well – it is a bit more painful but they can often be disguised as they are usually quite slim.

I would advise placing the tattoo elsewhere on your body.

thanks for your reply, i really appreciate the advice, ill have to rethink and choose another location.

Ive seen people with text on the “chop” side of their hand (sorry i dont know whats its called – imagine someone doing a karate chop, im talking about the side of the hand which hits the object – get it? 🙂

So will that be a better location, or will the problems still be the same? ie, fading, blowout etc.

    Thanks.

    Hi

The ink would take marginally better but again the skin is soft and often sloughs off as constant use and rubbing – would need a yearly re-ink.

My advice is find a better position or the back of the hand which as slightly less wear and tear.

thanks, i really appreciate the reply, ive been looking on the interenet at some pictures and a semi circle of text on the upper chest looks really nice (collar bone to collar bone). Ive just got to find the right font.

    Thanks for your help

I know you said that the palm/hand is a bad idea because it will wear off more easily, but if I were to choose the area right below the pinky finger (not the actual palm or actual finger) would it stay longer?

The design would be simple, and wouldn’t take up too much room.

I was just wondering if that would make any difference- I’ve heard different parts of the hand can hold the ink better.

    Hi

Hand tattoos wear quicker because the amount of use and washing that they get also the amount of sun exposure.

The closer to the wrist the better it holds (as a general rule) because there is less wear and tear.
That said yearly to 2 yearly inking is not uncommon to keep them fresh.

If you want to see examples of good and bad hand tattoos click on my sig and take a look at tattoo prejudice and hand tattoos.

Personally I’d stay away from the hands – you can’t hide the tattoo easily, and would blow a lot of job opportunities out the window, and like Matt said – they need constant retouching, and would end up as a black smudge if you got it on your palm. The chest is a better place to have something done, i’ve got one myself in the style that you’re describing. It’s a personal thing, but I hate seeing people with hand tattoos who aren’t covered in ink. To me, it just screams try-hard, but that’s completely my own opinion.

    :o:o:o

i fancied a lil butterfly on the side of my hand ( pinky finger side )
its is really in at the moment for woman and even my doggy’s vet has a tattoo there .
so as for jobs i think it depends on what you have tattooed .

im lucky that i work for myself , but im put off from doing it because of it needing re worked all the time.
